Hi All-
So my son will leave 4/12/10 for Great Lakes. and then he'll be heading to P'cola for he has AS - Aviation Support Equipment Technician as his job to be.

Can anyone tell me about the wait time between Great Lakes and A school? I've heard some have had long waits and and I'm just wondering. THANKS

Barb... I agree that marriage is a solemn sacrament... that being said there are many countries where you have a courthouse wedding for civil purposes and then a church wedding for sacramental purposes. I would note most of Europe falls into that category. I know many folks that have had their courthouse weddings and not lived as husband and wife until the church wedding has taken place.... just food for thought!

Barb,
I understand your philosophy of "Marriage is a Sacrament that needs to be blessed in a church." I would really consider letting your son know what both Jenny and I have written. I have first hand knowledge of marriage in the military and he really needs to know his options, all of them. If he doesn't know his options he may suffer in the future. There isn't going to be anyone that just passes out information to him on this matter. He needs to seek it out. If you are not comfortable with our advice I strongly advise you to advise your son to seek out his religious leader on base to get advise from him. This is very important. Firstly because he will need to go through the chaplin to receive premarriage counseling and he will also need to talk to his chain of command to tell them what is going on. At least that is what was required of me when I was in the military.

I am not going to get in a debate about religion and its importance. I am only trying to give the best military advise. Your son is the property of the US Government first and foremost. Then comes whatever you believe and whom ever you follow in church. The military will not change their rules to accommodate the needs of one sailor or soldier or even a thousand. To top it off, if the option is available to get help moving your sons new family why not take it. It will not be available after the fact. It can cost more than $1000 to rent a moving truck alone to move your sons new wife to his duty station.

Again, I have nothing against the religious aspect and beliefs that you have. I am just looking at the practical side of this and trying to save your son a lot of hassle in the future. I may be wrong, but why take the chance, just let your son know his options.
