As we get closer to I day, we have tried to encourage our son to RUN, RUN, RUN. My husband has timed him for the 1 1/2 miles, and his times are still 2-3 min from that. He says he runs, but I am thinking not fast or hard enough. Torn between encouraging, pushing, and letting him figure this out. I know I am not the only "mom" to face this. Not sure if he want to push himself, or can. HELP!

Julie.....Allergies. They want to make sure that no one has a reaction to milk products, so they take it away from them during this time. You have to remember when eating things there are mandatory, so if you have to eat everything that is served, then there is a chance that someone will have milk products that shouldn't. Once the school year comes around they have more control over what they can and should eat.

Julie....I am a long time Yard Mom. Each company different as to what they will allow and what they will not. You will just have to be flexible and play it by ear.

One thing I do know is that mail is not always picked up on a daily bases. It may sit for several days before it is delievered to the Plebes. Summers are hot there in Annapolis, so you may want to think about what you are sending.

My son has been deployed to the middle east where it is also hot during the summer and one thing they stress to us is to watch what we send. Try to avoid things with eggs and milk that can go bad in the heat. If the detailers think there is anything with milk in it, it will be subject for destruction. The Plebes are not allow milk during their training, whether at Boot Camp or Plebe Summer.

Also anything with chocolate in it does not travel well to Annapolis.

Best of luck to you and your family

JP....Welcome to the roller coaster. It quite the ride. As time moves on you will find many other thing to occupy your time.

No things come up and you will wonder why you worried about the other thing.

Hi JP,

Welcome and glad to have you here! Congratulations on your son's selection to the Academy and I see you're from CO so he definitely made the better choice over AF. ;>D If your son has been running for the last few months he should be okay but if not he'd better get going now.

He should not take anything the cadre says personally but to look for the lessons that will make him a better Mid/Sailor. Even though he may not understand the reasons now for what they do, one day when he's out in the fleet he'll appreciate that they were hard on him for good reason.

Kinda like how our children don't always understand what we as parents do but later they grow up and thank us if we're lucky!

Yes, Leslie, I agree, they do look so nice in their summer whites!! You'll see that for yourself on Commissioning Day!!

My Class of 2008 Mid, an Ensign, is busy working, underway for a deployment now and earning her SWO pen. I'm so proud of her and her shipmates!

Wow, I cannot believe that it has been a year already! And the places that they have gone is amazing. My sailor has been to New Orleans, Ft. Lauderdale and will be visiting at least 4 European cities since she's been in the fleet. How does your daughter like living overseas in Japan? Lauren likes Norfolk, VA fairly well and I really like the area. I just wish she lived closer to MI but I guess she's close compared to if she'd been stationed overseas. I'm sure Newport is even more fun as an officer this time around! So glad you've had time with Sian this month. We had a wonderful weekend, thanks.

Hey Connie ~ so good that your and Sian can have family time together for the holiday weekend. This years Commissioning was spectacular and the weather held out. Although some said heat wise it was a bit hot! Leslie, like you I watched much of the graduation and loved it.

Congratulations to the Class of 2009!! Hip hip.....
