I received this from our good friends, now in their 70's. He is ex navy, and was really impressed by the drill team. I hope it is ok to share this.

US Navy Presidential Drill Team

The rest of the story...

This was about three years ago. Our Navy Ceremonial Guard Silent Drill Team was invited to compete in an International Tattoo in Norway ....They competed against military units from all over NATO - and won first place.

Oh Leslie, thank you for the correction. I remember how when my daughter was a youngster too she became so protective over "her" plebes. At first, I did not understand that that protectiveness was a way for her to begin developing responsibility and leadership of those under her. Fortunately, it did not take long for me to see how the structure at USNA lends itself toward each mid becoming increasingly more responsible for their unit.

To paraphrase what someone once said, In the Ivy league universities they have courses in leadership but at our Service Academies students live and breathe it everyday. That is one noteable difference in the two types of higher education.

BTW, it seems his application may soon get a highly favorable review. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Leslie, I just love your post on how your plebe was able to tutor those in his company. It is a real show of leadership on his part and also of his generosity. Hopefully all companies will follow suit to some degree. Also his idea to have someone who is not doing PRT to take over watch for the evening before is ingenious.

Like you I agree the Academy is a wonderful place for our children to be. Cannot wait to be parent of a mid again.

Hey Catherine, I will pass the info along to PJ. Wow, I wished I had known they were so close. Maybe they could have hooked up yesterday for the Catfish beignets. I was in NO about 10 years ago and all the food is yummy.

Yes, they REALLY know how to cook in Nah Linns! ;>) Their entire crew was briefed before they were allowed to de-board and they had to have at least 3 to a group before they could leave. I will see if I can get the message to her about Cafe du Monde. Do you know anything about Emeril's restaurant? Thanks

Hi Navy Moms,

Thanks Leslie for the shout out! lol Glad you enjoyed the "24" video. My daughter PJ was finally able to call me from her ship as they were turning into the port of New Orleans. Later Friday evening, she called practically screaming to tell me she was on Bourbon Street!! I guess there was a few people out there with her. I asked her to pick out a new New Orleans apron but the only apron she could find for me said, I'll cook for sex. I told her if I couldn't wear it to church functions, it was best not to get it.

Fortunately, she was able to meet up with her aunt, uncle and cousin who were in town for Mardi Gras. Also, one of her shipmates parents have a second home in New Orleans and had prepared homemade gumbo and had fresh crawfish for the sailors. Their ship will be ported there until Wednesday so they'll get to enjoy some more Mardi Gras parades.

What a life our children lead!! What a life!

Thank you! All of you you for your comments and ideas. This last month has been wonderfully challenging. Spouse is commuting to NC from Atlanta, and they want to relo us 1 month before inductn day. How much MORE could we add to Scott's stress level. His grades are slipping in AP calc and AP chem. What a lesson. Can't help but think plebe summer and freshman year will be equally challenging. Starting crying in church, and other places thinking of him leaving. Sure I'll be a basket case by I-day
