Just got out 2nd Class Parents Weekend Packet..... Seems like our PPW packet arrived just yesterday.... It is hard to believe it has been 2 years since Plebe Summer.  I continue to be in awe of how much he has grown.

Truly saddened to hear of the loss of our Navy Seals.  RIP.  My prayers go out to the families and the comrades...

Jackie....If you have received the packet for PPW he has listed you as his parent.

I am with Barbara trying sending him a care package of his favorite things along with a note telling him how proud you are of him.  See where it goes from there. Good luck!

Sorry about the double post. Blackberry connectivity thru upstate NY on the way back from the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. I remember taking mid mid when he was a pip squeak close to his Birthday.

TODAY he is missing anothe B-day while on duty guarding the sailboat. I am so proud of him. The sacrfices are many and I commend all who have chosen to serve.

They do NOT have email. They will get their email addresses after Plebe Summer, just before the start of their "AC"ademic year. Don't get discouraged it is truly outside of their control.

To be honest, I am not certain if he understood that. However the fact that he gave that information, vs it being withheld might be a good sign. I can only imagine the uncertainty. I can tell you my son who had a "run for the nearest independence exit" has come to truly love and appreciate his mom even more. In turn I have REALLY begun to appreciate the man he has become.

I really want to encourage to go, but I respect the sensitivity. You may still get a phone call before then, but not have enough time to get a decent fare. With 2 grown boys and a grown daughter (and an 8 year old), sometimes it is harder for them to reach out to reconnect. That's why God gave them mothers!

P.S.  So then do the Plebes NOT have email?  I mailed a letter to him last week, but based on what you said I guess I shouldn't be discouraged if I don't get a reply?

Thank you, Barbara--that was encouraging.  It's so helpful to hear the real scoop from someone who's been there.  Yes, I received the PPW packet in the mail last week.  I called one of the contact numbers and was told that the Plebes submit their parents' names & addresses at one of the stations on I day.  Can you tell me:  do the Plebes understand that their parents are getting an invitation?  It probably sounds like a weird question, but it's very important for me to know whether he voluntarily invited me.

P.S.  I found him in a photo on the USNA Facebook page!  His company was on the obstacle course.  It was the first time I had "laid eyes" on him in two years.  God bless those photographers for giving us a window into their world.

Hi JackieM,

Congrats to your son. I think the phone call to parents is coming up soon if not already. PPW is definitely a weekend to be there and take your mid off base for a much needed break, and mostly sleep!

During Plebe summer they have no way to communicate w/ anyone other than that 1st letter, or shall I say post it note, which can take forever. There is a parent call before PPW about 2-3 wks prior. It was on a Sunday, and we. Could only talk for a few min. Have your questions ready & prioritize. They REALLY have to go when they say they do.

Do you have an address to send a care pkg to? If so send a couple of favorites along with a short note telling him you would love to be there.

Hang in there mom. The Naval Academy makes them appreciate us even more. Something happens to even the toughest one while there.... They advance @warp speed, and PPW is the 1st glimpse of that transformation!

I hope you hear soon.

Keep us posted, we're in your corner!

Have you received any info from the Academy re PPW?

Glad to know there is somebody out there!  I don't know how it's going at Plebe summer.  I only just learned that my son was appointed to the Academy.  He hasn't communicated with me since he enlisted in 2009.  He has wanted nothing else but to go to the Annapolis since he was a little boy.  This would make his third application.  I have an invitation to Parents' weekend, but I don't know if he wants me there.  I would like to hear from anybody who knows him (a longshot, I know).  I'm dying to go in August.  I've been scouring the Facebook photos of the Plebes, but I haven't found him.  I'm waiting to hear from him.
