OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

HI Shirley, there is another group that Stephanie Alice started called "Pillowcases for USS Abraham Lincoln Christmas project" (I think that's right).
I just looked in the thread called sewers, units etc. I don't see your sailor's unit listed. Do you know how many are in there? and what does that unit do?
Let me know and I can probably hook you up direct to a mom. thanks. Also, did you join Heads at Ease? That's how this whole thing got started. -

Shirley--I am trying to get a bunch of ladies together to do sewing for VAW 116. I'm going to set up a table at my church next weekend (hopefully) and start asking for help. My son says there are about 200 in the squadron, is that about the same as you are hearing from yours. I would appreciate fabric (Walmart Cards or Joann's Fabrics giftcards would be easier to send) and or shipping funds.

here is the information that I got from UPS. Will also post in HAE packing tips:
have talked to UPS about their suitcase box. It's actually very close to the same price as USPS, but you have to buy the box. I took an avon box of fabric in to compare the prices. I'm a visual person, so that helped me understand. this is what I found out:
suitcase boxes:
small 22 x 14 x 9 cost is $13.00 for the box
large 26 x 16 x 12 cost is $18.00 for the box, I think
then the add 1" to each dimension for the actual figuring of the cost. Don't quite get that, but that's what they do.
Then it's based on the weight and zip code. Plus they charged me $1.50 for a fuel surcharge. I mailed the box for $25 and change, which was alittle bit more than the 2 flat rate boxes. But I had some crazy big bulky pieces that fit nicely into the avon box vs the flat rate box, so I went with it.
So if you have your own box, it's about the same. if you buy their boxes, that adds to the price. and this is based on surface shipping which took 1 week. And I didn't do a "practice" pack with pcs, just fabric. I will have to do that.
Air is outrageous. hope that information helps. -

I am volunteering to 'start' sewing for the SunKings VAW 116, I've been told there are about 200 in the squadron. They will be on the Lincoln for this deployment and my son is one of them. I want to know from dollyslaffn or anyone else that has posted pictures here if I can use them for a display I'm making for my church? I'm hoping to get some of the ladies there involved in this project.
