So my fiancé is graduating on March 8th and will be attending the GL A- school. I just wanted to know what its like there? Are the same rules applied as in boot camp? will he be able to speak to me whenever? will he have free time off base if I decided to come and visit him? Also if anyone has info about being a Seaman, that's what he is, and how long there A-school typically lasts. I know its different for each person and each position, so if anyone has info about the seaman position let me know. We also plan on getting married when he is there, does anyone have any current experience's with getting married during A- school? and any advice? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you, I'm glad he will have more free time.

He will earn his liberty in phases:

Do you mean the PACT Seaman program?  Seaman is also a paygrade, so it can be confusing.  The S-PACT program is quite short at Great Lakes, just around 4 weeks. With holds and indic, it could be a couple weeks longer.  It is technically not A school, more of a seamanship training course.

He cannot go further away from the base on liberty than 300 miles.  After he is finished with his seaman training, he may get a week;s leave at home, depending on his orders. If you have not gone to Great Lakes to get married, he can do it on leave at home without permission.  There is a chance he will be issued orders in  bootcamp because he will be at TSC Great Lakes for such a short time.  In that case, you will not get a paid move to his new duty station.  Although they are not supposed to marry PIR weekend, he can ask when he checks in to TSC if it will be okay.  I have heard this shorter school allows it.  I don;t want to say yes 100%, which is why I suggest he ask immediately.  You should google Lake County Clerk to learn the hours and what you need of you can marry that weekend.  You'd be getting the license on Friday, then marry on Saturday.  If he is in a different school, then this might not be possible.

I hope that answers a few questions, and was not too confusing.

Thank you, it was helpful, and that sounds about right, I got his letter sasaying that his a school was only 4 weeks, at GL.
