Hey Joyce! My son is also in Great lakes for A school....When I came to my son graduation I brought his cell phone and laptop for now.....Being that hes in the first phase of A school and when goes to the next phase (4 weeks or so) he can have clothes and wear them on weekend.... But he should keep you posted....Hope this helps...

Hi, thank you for the information it does help, so that being said should I not bring any clothes at all? I'm asking because he did give me a list of some clothes he wanted, can they keep them there or should I just mail them at a later time. What about any snacks, electric razor anything else does your son say he can have? I'm flying there on thursday so just trying to get an idea of what kind of luggage i am gonna need to bring. How was graduation? Congratulations to your son!
Sorry I'm just getting back to you.....It depends if he's staying in GL or leaving for A school....Being that they go thru different "phases" every 4 weeks my son is in phase 2 where he can wear 'Cilvilian" clothes after the 1st phase. I know it sounds a bit confusing but if he stays in GL bring them... If he goes to anywhere else i would wait and mail it to him when he tell you to.....As far as toiletries, you can send care packages (snacks) but everything else he'll get from "THE NEX" (which is the same as a Walmart, Target, Kmart) and its right across the street from his barracks....(GL only) but its usually the same set-up from base to base....basically in GL it looks like a college campus with everything at the hands. (McDonalds Pizza Hut Subway Movie theater full gym infirmary, etc) Maybe your son will let you take a lil tour of the base to see for yourself. What to pack?....pack light it'll be cold! (bring a sweater jeans maybe some heel boots and your sneakers)
As far as graduation ....YOU'LL BE IN TEARS! Lol....The whole ceremony was really nice! Make sure you get there early! The better seat you have...I dont know where your hotel is but most of the hotels have shuttle service to the graduation unless you're renting a car....I trying to remember as much as I can. I know It may seen a lil overwhelming but to see him will be well worth it! Trust me!...CONGRATS AGAIN!
