Okay first off, my sailor and I are NOT married. According to my boyfriend, he told me that since I'm not his wife and I'm not a family member, I can not sign him out for liberty. Apparently someone screwed it up for them? He's kinda fuzzy on the details. He did put in a chit to see what they would say, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Have any of y'all heard of not being able to sign out a sailor because I'm only his girlfriend? Any feedback would be great, thanks! (Oh, and we already booked our hotels and everything...so I'm hoping everything will still go as planned!)

yes that is very possible that they won't allow you to sign him out.  He can route a chit, but if it is denied, than he can not have you sign him out as his liberty buddy.  It is the Navy rules now and the only one that knows 100% what is going on, as ever barracks can be a little different, is your BF

Really? That's awful :( I'm hoping to find something out for sure tomorrow. Is it just Great Lakes that has this rule? Because most of the girlfriends I've talked to that have a sailor at a different A-School are able to sign them out for liberty. Is this a new rule or something?

Most likely, they will not allow you to sign him out. It's an honor system they have going there, and they feel that if they allow just anyone to sign them out, then there is more likely hood of them getting into trouble, or unsafe situations. It even took some work for my hubby to get them to allow me, his pregnant wife, to sign him out.

Anyways, best of luck!

Man this is really upsetting :( I hate to keep getting my hopes up. If anything, maybe he can get one of his buddies to sign him out and we can all do something.

If he has a buddy sign him out, that buddy has to stay with him ALL the time!  And if the buddy leaves him at anytime, they both can get in big trouble!!!  So if the buddy signs him out and you where planning on getting freaky...it isn't going to happen.

I am new at this as my son went through PIR on 7/20/12 - and is at GL for A School.  My son's girlfriend went to visit him last weekend.  She stayed at the Navy Lodge and as far as I know, she was able to sign as his buddy for the weekend.  My son is almost done with school and will graduate in about 3-4 weeks.  He's already received his ship assignment when he graduates in October.  Wanted you to know this so you have an idea of what phase he's at in school.    I agree with everyone that it all depends on the barracks, the commander and their mood.  Also depends on behavior, attitude and whether that captain/commander has been burned by a sailor and won't let it happen to him/her again.    Hope this helps.

It isn't a captain/commander in the barracks it is a Chief!

Thanks for your input Julie! I'm planning on the Navy Lodge, still have my reservations there. I'm hoping to find something out today since I didn't yesterday. His A-School is going to be roughly a year, so it would suck if I couldn't sign him out for such a long period. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying everything works out...that's all I can really do right now.

Different phases, different rules, also if someone screwed it up in one barracks it could just be that one that isn't allowed.

If he said, it can't happen than it can't happen.

All you are doing is upsetting yourself by going off what other GF's say they could do.

Well, he's phase 2 right now. Hopefully within a week or so he will be phase 3. He's doing very well in class, he's in the top 4 of his class right now. I really should stop reading what people have to say, but I just like to hear what everyone has experienced. His chief (from what my bf said) is a pretty chill guy and nice, so I'm hoping everything will work out. If not, I'll just have to suck it up and wait till Christmas.

I'd say, the people on here are letting you know they don't know for sure. Have him ask his "cool Chief".

You mentioned "we" booked a hotel room. Are you planning on his staying with you overnight, or just during the day?

Well, he's going to put in an overnight chit, but I don't expect it to get accepted. Honestly, if it gets denied I wont be that upset because I really just want to spend the days with him. I said "we" booked the hotel because he's the one that actually called to make the reservation, but I'm going to be the only one staying there. I also booked my own reservation in Ohio the night before because it's going to be a 16 hour drive and I want to take a break on the way. Still haven't heard anything back yet, his chief is talking to one of the officers now. So I'm hoping to find out soon because I'm supposed to be leaving in less than 2 weeks.
