I have made the decision to relocate with my daughter to Waukegan while my husband is there for the 4 months of A school for HT. My work is able to transfer me, so it's really not too big of a deal. I will be fine to move myself and find a place and I am assuming the worst and expecting my husband to not be able to live with us. However, these are my questions: A) What are the odds, currently, that he may be able to live with us, and what is the best way to go about asking permission? B) Would the Navy change our BAH to the Chicago rate, because it does happen to be higher than our current area? (I know that one seems a little far fetched and even I kind of laugh at it. lol) Any information would be greatly appreciated. I know there are other posts, and I have read the ones I could find, but they are all from past years, so I figured I'd ask.

The only schools in Great Lakes that approve live ashore are ET and FC.  also the Navy will not pay to move you there.  Before you go and move up there, I would recommend that he talk to his COC and ask them about it.  One thing at a time, he needs to find out if he can even live ashore with you before you worry about the BAH being changed.

Also the BAH isn't for Chicago area in Great Lakes, it is Great Lakes area.

I understand that the navy wouldn't pay for the move. And I would still be working either way. It's not too large of a change for us anyway. And any money I might spend I will save not paying to visit him. When will he be able to speak with his COC? He is still at RTC.

Once he checks into A school, that is the chain of command he needs to speak to.  RTC is a completely different command from TSC (Training side of Great Lakes).  They won't know the TSC policies very well.

Once he gets to the "A" School side he will have to go through indoc and during that time they tell them the rules and regulations of living ashore.  He will be able to ask in there if he would be able to live ashore.  Keep in mind, if he does get approved to live off base...he won't be given time off to go get you and help you move, nor will he be given special time off to go find you a place to live and move into that place, that will be 100% on you to do.

I wouldn't count on him being able to live off base, so have another plan if that gets denied.

Thanks Angie and Anti M- I am aware this move would be soley on me. But I do appreciate you guys making sure I'm aware. I've moved a lot growing up so it's not too big of a deal for me. And we're only 6 hours away now, so won't be too bad. I have places lines up for walk throughs before PIR while I'm there. And as far as a place, my husband will live with what I choose, he might not even actually live there anyway. Lol thanks for your help! I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything him or I should be doing now as far as permission goes.
