Hey Everyone!
I was hoping I could get some advice about staying at the Navy Gateway during PIR. My husband (the recruit graduating) is staying in Great Lakes for A school afterwards. I know that after he signs into A school that he supposedly isn't allowed to visit the Navy Gateway but that he can request chit. How does he request this? is there anything I need to do? If he does request this, is it reliable that it will actually go through? I would just be so disappointed if a chose to stay there and we didn't have anywhere to relax together.
Also, his parents are driving me but since they don't have military ID's I don't think they can stay. However, are they going to be able to come pick me up in their car if the hotel is on base? If they can't pick me up, do they have a shuttle service to take me to PIR?
Thanks for the help!

There is no 100% that anything in the Navy will be approved.  He will be the Sailor, he is the one who has to put the proper paper work in once he gets to the "A" School side.   Also with his parents driving you up there, they will not be able to drive on the base with out someone with a military id and a gate pass, you would have to walk to the gate..which is about 3/4 of a mile give or take if the main gate is open (which it isn't always open as now is the season when they start maintenance on the gates.)  There is no shuttle from Gateway Inn to PIR, also taxi's are not allowed on the base, so you will have to walk the 3/4 mile to the gate to get a taxi or meet his parents to take you to PIR.

Recommend you stay off base, as it is just easier for everyone and your soon to be Sailor will be able to relax as staying at the Gateway Inn there are always military people in and out of there a lot senior to your soon to be Sailor and he won't be able to just relax.

we've had really good luck getting nice rooms for cheap by using Priceline.com's instant deal feature.  After you put in the date(s) you'll be staying, click on the "Express Deals" tab.  It won't show you the name of the hotel until after you book it, but it does show you the neighborhood, the star value, and the guest rating.

We've gotten Country Inn and Suites (2 1/2 stars, near Gurnee Mills Mall) for as little as $43 a night.

However... Six Flags is now open, so I imagine the rates will be going up!
