Our son has been waiting to get assigned his permanent room while going to A School. A School hasn't started for him, so I don't know if they're holding off on assigning him his permanent room or what. It's been 2 weeks (yeah, I know, hurry up and wait), but his b-day was just yesterday and we couldn't even send him a b-day card or anything. Does anyone know if the post office on base has post office boxes? This way he can get his mail without having to wait for his permanent room assignment. He's also thinking that he might do C School there as well, after he's done with A School, but that' up in the air right now. Any info on how he could get mail would be appreciated. He hasn't had much time to check with the post office as he's been down and out getting sick (pink eye, major allergy/sinus infection, sore toes, sore throat). Poor guy! I guess he waited till after boot camp to get sick, and fortunately A School hasn't started for him so he hasn't missed out on any classes.

He might try finding a friend on base that is already in a permanent room that can receive his mail for him, then you can address the box/mail to his friend. Don't do c/o or anything like that. The people in charge of the "ship" you're sending it to will get confused and the mail may never make it to him

For example; your son's friends name is John Smith, and your sons name is Harry Evans, you'd address it like this:

SR John Smith

USS Preble

0000 Paul Jones

Great Lakes, IL 60088

And then, somewhere on the box, put "for Harry Evans"

Does that make sense?

Hope that helps! He should be put in permanent housing soon.
