My boyfriend just PIR'd on 4/16/10. He is staying in GL for A School for a corpsman. I was just wondering if anyone could answer these questions for me.
1. How soon do they get to call (he said he was moving either Tuesday night or Wednesday)?
2. How soon can I get his address and send him his phone?
3. What service (ups, postal service, etc.) is best to use to send him this stuff?
4. What does liberty look like in the beginning? Will we get to talk more?

Thanks for you help!! I am going crazy without him!

I'm new to all of this too, but my son has called me several times since he went to A School. He's at GL too. He writes to me once in a while but now mostly on Facebook. It took him no time to move into his A school room as it's not like they are going too far ;) !
My son gave me his new address when he called the first time from A school. His PIR was at the end of March. My boy also told me that there is a post office on base as he STILL hasn't mailed me his photos from his PIR. So far he has had a few weekends off base and usually spends it with one of his fellow sailors and knows a friend in Chicago who has been showing him all of the "hot spots" there. He went to get a famous Chicago hot dog place where there were over 70 people waiting in line! His friend also is a well-known DJ. I do get a bit worried when he's off base .... I feel he's safer when he's in there! Hope this helps somewhat as I'm no expert ..... a Navy newbie too. I just go with the flow of things.
Thanks for all the info! I got a phone call or two from him and he gets his cell phone tomorrow:) It is all coming together. What kind of computer do you guys recommend?? He doesn't have a lap top so we were going to buy him one. Or should he just do that on the weekends??
my sailor got to call on the tuesday they moved in and he had his address that day as well, although his changed a few times. I use USPS (postal service) priority or express because it gets there within 2-3 days with priority and the next day with express. my bf said he was glad i sent USPS because people who got stuff shipped ups didnt get thier's when they thought they would. You get to talk when he has time which at first, at least with my bf was quite a bit. once they class up they can use phones from 1600-till they fall asleep but they do have to clean, study and try to find some personal time. I hope this helps if u have any more questions feel free to ask!
Hi, My son PIR'd on 4/16/10 and is in GL for A school for corpsman too. He moved into his room on Friday afternoon right after graduation. We brought him his cell phone and we've been texting each other, and he's given us his address. My son was is DIV 156, what about your boyfriend?
He was in Division 160. What barrack number is he in now? He moved in on Tuesday night, but I got his address now, and he should be getting his phone today:)
Hi cwgirlfriend,
He's in 131 now, what about your boyfriend?
ALOHANAVY-
So is my boyfriend, he is in 131. Justin right? I will ask my boyfriend if he knows him.
My son's PIR was 4/16 as well and he's in Corp school. He got to spend the whole weekend off base with us after reporting to school immediately after PIR. We got him back by 4pm. We went out the next day and got him a new cell phone and a laptop and he's called and/or been on Facebook every day. ALOHANAVY my son was Div 155.
Hi Kelly,
Our son got to spend the whole weekend off base too with us at our hotel. It was an incredible 2 days for my family.
Sadly we had to leave early Sunday morning to catch a flight back home but it at least gave him some time to do laundry and go to NEX to purchase supplies and prepare for the week. How's your son doing now? So wonderful to have this site to meet all of you and compare notes!
Agreed! This site is amazing!
how long is A school for corpsman training? my boyfriend is still at BC, but he'll be at Great Lakes for HM afterwards and i've heard different things on how long training is.
I have heard mixed things also, but I think it is about 14 weeks long! Can anyone confirm this? It is much better than BC though:)
