OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Visiting During A School?
rate is HM - hospital corpsman. I'm wondering if I will only be able to
visit him Liberty Weekend? Or if there is a way to visit the sailors on
base during phase one of A School? In that case I'd look into staying
for a longer visit than just the short weekend. I live on the west
coast so it's quite a production to go to Chicago to see him... I'm
flying in for PIR on Thursday, PIR is on Friday, he gets liberty
weekend, then has to check back in Sunday night. If I stay an extra
couple nights (Mon, Tues, Wed or so) would I be able to see him after
school? I don't mind going on base if I have to... I've heard from one sailor who graduated boot last Friday who says they can have visitors M-F from 4-9:45 but I've also heard others say this is a no-no so I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can on it. Would love to make some travel arrangements soon...

Thanks SailorMillFiance! I figure it should be okay to stay a few extra days- like you said even if it's only a couple more hours to spend with him it'd be worth it. I'm just getting so many conflicting answers on whether it'll be possible or not! Maybe since your fiance has an earlier grad date you can let me know when you and your fiance go through it then :) We are probably getting married that weekend too! We have a ceremony and reception planned for after he gets out of A School (wedding planning is keeping me busy and occupied!) but figure why not get the benefits starting now if we can right? So we'll probably do the courthouse thing for that. You should keep in touch and let me know how everything goes for you that weekend- 4/30 is coming up! As for living ashore... I don't think his school is long enough to do that- it's only 12 weeks and I think it has to be longer for permission to be granted. I don't mind waiting though- like I said we've got a ceremony and reception planned for when he gets out and that's keeping me going right now!

Yes it's so much easier to know you're not alone in this whole big ball of confusion!! Haha. I'm so glad our situations are so similar- very interested to see what you're experience will be come April 30 :) So how are you going about getting married then? Are you applying for the marriage license that Friday of PIR then getting married at a court on Saturday? I'm trying to figure out the logistics of how we'd do it. I know my fiance definitely wants to get married now and still have the big ceremony/ reception when he gets back- and I'm totally into getting all the benefits the military has to offer earlier- so just trying to figure out how to make it happen! Oh this is all so exciting don't you think... we'll be married so soon!! :)

How did you go about hiring a Justice of the Peace? Like, how far in advance can you do that? I'll probably end up having to do the same thing since grad is on Friday and you have to wait 24 hours before you can use the marriage license. Thanks for all the info! I'm so glad I found you haha this is awesome we have such similar situations :) And yeah totally sucks we don't get them over night but spending ANY time with him is going to feel like such a treat after this long run of no communication yaaa know? So excited :)

My son just completed his first week of Corpsman school and unless I totally misunderstood him, they are only allowed to leave the base on weekends, no overnights till Phase 2 and to my knowledge they are only allowed visitors on weekends. Don't hold me to that though because I could easily be wrong.

Hey. My boyfriend just let a week ago. I'm still an absolute basket case. He is going for hospital medic as well. Are you positive about their A school only being 12 weeks, because that relieves me. I was told 12 months. I freaked out.

Our son just graduated last Friday, April 30th. We live in CA too, and didn't want to "waste" any time we could've spent with him. We booked our flights to arrive on Thursday and leave on Monday afternoon. We TOTALLY did the right thing! After graduation, he had to immediately check in "across the street" at A School, Great Lakes, so we went back to our hotel room (at the Navy Lodge...$65/night, nice and close to the base...we recommend it!) and waited for him to call. We picked him up about 4 hours later and he had Liberty until Sunday, 9 p.m. If we'd have left Sunday, we would've missed out on almost a full day with him so don't make that mistake! :) Leave on Monday so that you can spend every minute with him you can! Also, make sure to stop at Target or Walmart sometime before he goes back to the barracks. He'll need a black backpack ($30 at the Nex), toiletries, laundry detergent, comfortable black socks, boxers, snacks, etc. Good luck to you!
