So my boyfriend just graduated boot camp on 5/4 and I'm planning a trip out there on the weekend of the 26th of this month (May) I just have a few questions since I've never been to Chicago and I hate flying haha. But here are my questions:

Where are some good places to stay for hotels? My boyfriend doesn't know anything about the hotels and I don't really care where I stay but I want it to be fairly close to the base because unfortunately we can't rent a car because the rental place is closed on weekends so we'd have to depend on a taxi.

Will I be able to sign my boyfriend out instead of his buddie(s)? He said some of his shipmates have bad their girlfriends sign them out easily even though they weren't married. Also he only has second liberty so far which sucks but it's better than nothing so I know he has to be back at 12AM all weekend.

And also as a side note, what are some fun things to do while I'm out there?

ANY information would be appreciated.

Thank you!!

When my daughter graduated boot camp, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan Illinois. That hotel was very clean and close to base. There are a lot of things to do in downtown Chicago. Hope this info helps you.

You can stay at the navy lodge, they're a little touchy about sailors staying there, but you definitely can, i stayed for the first 3 months while he was there and we were completely fine. Also it's only 65 bucks a night so it's a deal. You can hop on the metra which is about a mile away from the lodge and it can take you as far north as kenosha WI or to chicago (and any of the towns down on the way).  TONS of stuff to do in chicago! Also, there's always gurnee mills if you love to shop, tons of outlet stores! If he only has Phase 2 he does need two buddies with him, a lot of them will split off and do their own thing but they are supposed to stay together with you. Too bad you guys aren't married because if he has live ashore (even if you're not down there yet) then you could take off for the weekend. That's what we did before i moved ;) Have fun!
