yeah, just depends on what plane/helo they are assigned to ;) right now looks like my hubby will work on P3s and our friend on F18s

My hubby says that AE's work out in the shops actually on the plane.. then if they cant fix a piece they take it into an "air conditioned room" for the ATI to fix (the ATI guy gets to sit in that a/c room - hes jealous lol) The ATI guy fixes it and puts it on a shelf till they need it back on the plane... ATI and AE are more "specialized" and ATO is broader he says.

That was my hubbys description ;) but hes still in Aschool so it might not be accurate

So what is the difference between an AE and an AT?
Comment by Bobbi Ray on August 4, 2011 at 2:25pm
My sailor is an AE and he is in San Diego. He loves it there. He wasn't to excited at first because he wanted to go to the East Coast but he got the West Coast instead. We live in Illinois, so we are a long way apart, Thats the downside of it all. He also did his C School in San Diego.

Hi ladies....I just found out that my son has been offered an AE job. He originally went into the Navy under a Air Resuce contract, but was disqualified at boot for his eyesight. He is still in bootcamp and is scheduled to PIR 9/9/11. We're dissapointed, but thats life. So he is going to make the best of this and try again for rescue in 2 years. (After he gets the eye surgery) I have read the great advice you guys have offered on this link and I have mailed some of the posts to him. I am glad there is a little group on here for this job so we can all compare notes!

ElleBee: He has not completed C school.  I guess I thought that would be in Norfolk.  Does anyone know how long C school is for helicopter repair?  Also, my Uncle lives in Norfolk (he is a retired Navy Captain) so my son will have some family nearby.

Ellie not all AE's get a c school! they wont know untill they get hard orders, not just verbal.

My son finally got his orders!  He said after AE school finishes up in Oct,  he gets some vacation time and then he is off to work on the Navy's biggest helicopter, (the CH something or other) and will be stationed out of Norfolk and then heading off on either an aircraft carrier or amphibious assault ship to the middle east somewhere.  (Not sure I like the middle east part too much......)  He is so excited! He did get Sea Duty first and told me it was for 4 1/2 years!
