I totally recommend Sarge's Meet and Greet.  It was a good way to meet some other parents the night before.  Plus he is a wealth of information.  He might have a good recommendation for steak around the Gurnee/Waukegan area.  I know some good but expensive places in Chicago.  Just keep in mind they are exhausted and might just want to hang out in the hotel after lunch.  They are just happy to get their phone back.  There is a large outlet mall called Gurnee Mills that a lot of people go to because it is close.  They have a movie theatre there, too.  Let me know if I didn't answer everything.

Thanks for the info Dorren-PNM! I am glad he is enjoying his time in the Navy! My sailor is just starting to enjoy it since bootcamp so it definitely gives me peace of mind.

@MySonBug- bootcamp wasn't too bad for him. He was Master of Arms and had to deal with a lot more yelling than the rest but he did mention its definitely manageable. PIR was such an AWESOME experience and definitely a proud moment for myself and my sailors parents. :) I can't wait for you to experience it and see your son graduate!

@PT mom- He actually only waited about 2 weeks to class up. the first week he had indocrine ( life lessons), today he had his fire fighting class and found out today that he classes up tomorrow!

Thank you all for responding. Question #1. Will my son be able to have his jeep at A school?

Doreen-PNM, thank you for the information and your kind offer! Taking rust off of planes?! I will have to remind my son: the needs of the Navy! We will be staying at the Navy Lodge, and going to Sarge's Meet and Greet. My Sailor asked for a good steak when on liberty after PIR. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi, my son is on his 2nd set of orders. He was a GM on a cruiser first.  He went to Pensacola for A school for AE in July, 2015. Then chose his orders for a squadron on North Island (Coronado, CA).  They didn't send him to C school until Sep 2016 in Norfolk, VA.  He stayed about 6 weeks and then went back to North Island.  He now is doing the AE job.  For the year he was taking rust off of planes.  I think he actually enjoyed it.  He is in his 6th year in the Navy, so I can answer various questions.  Enjoy PIR, it is a wonderful experience!!  I live about an hour from Great Lakes, that was how I got through BC.  I knew he wasn't far away...  Any questions about PIR and the Chicago area, let me know.

I would love to see this group be active again! My Sailor (just got the call) has PIR this Friday, and then will be going to Pensacola for AE. Navyfiance1228, if your fiance classes up tomorrow, is there any way of knowing how long it will be before then next class begins? How long did your Sailor have to wait to class up?

Navyfiance1228 my son is still in BC. His PIR is May 26th and he flies out that weekend. I'm actually excited that you're ahead of me as you probably have all my answers :) how has your journey been following BC?

@MySonBug: hello! My fiancé was told today that he classes up tomorrow and starts school. Is your son starting tomorrow as well?

Oh and ATT is Apprentice Technical Training and AWAT is Aviation Warfare Apprentice Training - not sure the details of each but that's what they stand for :)
