Kathy C,

Thank you so much for the info! That information answered a lot of my questions..
He is playing trombone, & I'll have to tell him to look for..Danielle?..

Can you tell me if he can/should take his laptop with him to A school? I've read a lot of posts of theft &/or damage...

YEA!! I'm so glad I found this group! My son is in GL right now & will go to Music School afterwards. I would love to hear from veteran moms about what I can expect from the Navy Music School:). Thanks!!

Does anyone know the status of the current manning levels?  My son had an audition a few months ago and is on the waiting list...going crazy!  Ready to go.

Thanks for the responses, Lauren and Kathy C.  I will keep that in mind.  Currently, we already have a reservation through Sunday, I think I will extend one more night it so that we have a place to stay till we leave for the airport Sunday night, I can always cancel if she ends up leaving on Saturday.  I appreciate the guidance!

Hello!  I'm trying to make travel plans for my daughter's PIR  - from your experience, how soon after PIR did your child/husband/wife leave for A School (School of Music)?  Saturday, Sunday or Monday?  I was told by her recruiter it depends if they have a class ready to go once she gets there; or she could be sent home for awhile till they get enough students to fill a class.  Is that true?

Thanks for the replies! Kris is a vocalist. Hope she gets stationed close by so I still get to see her! I miss her so! BC is really very hard on the moms but it's good to be able to talk to you all! God bless!

Hello!  My daughter just left for bootcamp on Monday 3/26.  She's going to be an MU in one of the fleet bands.  Does anyone know which bands currently have an opening?  Just curious where she's going to be stationed eventually.  BTW, I've been reading the posts at this website at I'm very grateful because it is very enlightening.  It's not so scary anymore because I've learned a little bit more about what she's getting into.  Thanks for the people who thought of putting this website together and all the moms who are contributing!  God bless!

If any of you moms have a son or daughter at the School of Music and they aren't going home for christmas and they don't have a place to go on christmas day, please let them know that they are welcome to join us in our home for a Christmas dinner!

That is good!  I don't know if my daughter would want to give up her MC job, but at least I'm prepared if she calls one day to tell me she's playing or singing for the Navy.  Thank you for the quick reply.

My daughter just went to boot camp and was assigned to the 900 division.  We had no idea that the Navy offered any kind of a music program.  She is excited about her assignment as she was in HS band/choir/drama/drill team for 4 years.  She already has a "job", is the music program a "job" or an additional thing they get to do in addition to their contract?  The Navy won't change her contract will they?
