Hello-found this group yesterday. My son is going to be an ensign-Navy nurse. He leaves for Newport on March 5 and then will going to Bethesda on April 9th. His father is retired Air Force so I am not completely new to Service Life. I am so excited for my son but I am a little nervous too. We live in Phoenix and he will be going completely across the country. He chose Bethesda because he wants to see another part of the country. But one of the other reasons was he has a helicopter mom (hovering). It is joke between us but so true. We are so close and I am going to miss him terribly. I am going to fly out for graduation in April. So after he leaves-- the next time I will see him will be the night before he graduates at a reception. The thought of him in his uniform that night almost makes me cry. I am going to see him for such a short time that weekend before he leaves for Bethesda. He is 22 but it is so hard to see him leave. I am so proud of him and stand behind his choice to serve in the Navy.

We live in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and my daughter (only child) is stationed in Bethesda. So, I know firsthand how hard it is having her so far away. Ashley loves that part of the country and she grew up in Arizona. She is currently working fifth floor at NNMC. I know what you mean about it being hard seeing them go. Ash turned 20 this past weekend.

We live in Phoenix. My son is leaving Sat. for Newport RI  at 7am, so time is getting really short now. Has your daughter been at Bethesda long? My son won't arrive at Bethesda until the 1st week in April then he will have 16 weeks in orientation before he knows where he will be placed in the hospital. He is a new grad. RN and he is going to be experiencing a lot of new changes. Does your daughter live on base or off ? There aren't any quarters for single officers so my son also has to find an apartment as soon as he gets there. Has your daughter been home yet? Hopefully my son will be able to come home for Christmas but we will see. You must miss your daughter very much.
Phoenix to Bethesda that is just a short jaunt.  My daughter's first duty station was Guam 23 hr plane ride from home.  Now however it is only a 6-8 drive depending on when we leave and how many stops we make.  But now matter how far they are, at some point they will come home for a visit.
