Blue Star Mother's of Corona (CA30) had a goal of 1000 care packages this year and we hit 1015!  The final packing party was on Saturday and was a huge success.

There's going to be a lot of happy Sailor's/Soldiers this year!

The BS Mom's group I belong to is a really good group.  Last night were elections so the meeting was very formal and organized.  They had just recently (a couple of weeks ago) been to the national convention (which was held in San Francisco this year) so they incorporated a lot of  the "ceremony" into our meeting.  It was very nice - we all wore the "official" BS Mom's uniform - white shirt/blouse with blue dress slacks or skirt.  We have one mom on our board who has also served on the National board and she is both a Gold Star Mom and a Blue Star Mom.  She lost her oldest son in 2007 in Afghanistan. Her youngest son was also there on the same deployment.  He came home after that and then was at Ft Hood when the shooting took place there on the base.  She said prior to that he was going to re-enlist but changed his mind and was done.  She said his comment was "Mom, it's one thing when they shoot at us when we are in their space but when they start shooting at us on our own base then it's time for me to leave."  She is just an amazing woman....such strength and so involved in helping others.

This weekend we have a fundraiser we are doing - we have been making neck bands - the things where you sew 4 separate pouches in a long strip of cloth and fill them with those "gel beads" things that when you get them wet they keep you cool....I'm sure you've all seen them.  Well there is an event in Corona and we will have a table set up there to sell them.  Then what we don't sell will eventually go in care packages that are being sent overseas.  And we have another Sam's Club donation set up in a couple of weeks.  2 weeks ago we collected 12 shopping carts full of stuff!

I wish you could all be so lucky to find a good BSM's group!  I am really enjoying spending time with other military mom's - and for such a good cause!

Hi - I'm new to the group - just recently joined Blue Star Mothers in Corona, California (#30).

I was priviledged to be able to go to the airport on Friday night and welcome home a soldier from Afghanistan along with many other BSM's. It was wonderful and a surprise for him!
