I cycled through a few different ideas and ended up with this lantern with a blue 'flameless' candle that I got on Amazon (they are not easy to find!), thanks to one of the ladies that posted it here a couple months back. I bundled all of the letters I got from SR and his GF during their time in bootcamp and put them in there. I plan to use it as sort of a shadow box for other things from his time in the Navy as well. I have a photo of SR and his GF next to it and on the other side is the Blue Candle Poem.
mom2blondies, I love that, it's beautiful. I've got to steal this idea. Great job Navy Mom.
My blue light is on a timer and it comes on about 2 in the afternoon when I get home and goes off about 8. When I notice it I stop what I am doing and say a little prayer for him. I also made a actual candle because my battery went dead and I knew he needed prayers for a specific thing and I couldn't get to the store to buy batteries.
Blue Candle Poem
I will burn my blue candle, and hold my head high.
I will burn my blue candle, and try my best not to cry.
I will burn my blue candle, because he wasn't afraid to take on the world.
I will burn my blue candle, in honor of all those who fight.
I will burn my blue candle, for all those who may or may not be there at dawns early light.
I will burn my blue candle, for every holiday, birthday and anniversary.
I will burn my blue candle, and pray for our Soldiers and Sailors that God has mercy.
I will burn my blue candle, until he comes home.
I will burn my blue candle, so he knows he is never alone.
I love these blue candle ideas!
I have it on every night even though it has been almost a year since he left for BC. :) it is actually very comforting
I imagine it is. So, if I may ask, how has the 1st year gone?
He left here July 29th. Swore in July 30th. Went through PIR September 25th. Then onto A School. Graduated there December 5th. Then came home for a 10 day leave before joining the fleet. He is currently out in the Atlantic somewhere. It has been a lot of emotional Rollercoaster rides. But once he went to A School, I have been able to talk to him most days. Even if it is just a quick text message. When he is out, I got a few days without hearing anything but he emails when he can.
I appreciate the timeline & so happy to hear that our sailors even on fleet can keep in touch frequently! Emotional roller coasters are to be expected, I'll hold tight to my faith. :) Thank you for sharing.
