My SR wrote in his letter that his A school got changed from CA to MO... anybody know why that could have happened??

  • My SR said they could change what his job choice was while at boot camp. They finalize while there...could be something changed that was out of your sons control.

Hopefully he'll be able to call this Saturday.. now I'm freaking out and full of a million questions!!!

Hopefully it'll be something he's happy with and I hope you get your call this weekend!

BabyFox, No reason to freak out since this is actually not a change, other than to correct a misunderstanding that he had. EO's have "A" School in Fort Leonard Wood, MO at the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering. Those with a contract for Construction Mechanic (CM) have "A" School in Port Hueneme, CA at the Naval Construction Training Center and he does not have a contract for that rating. He will still fly out the day after PIR and he will still have "A" School for about 10 weeks once he classes up.

I've heard and read the same thing.... it's all on what they need at the time that they're in BC and completely out of anybody's control. Stinks I know.

mkl7993, changing contracts while at BC does not happen often, It happens if a recruit is DQ'd for some reason and needs to change contracts or if a contract becomes available and the recruit is eligible for it (this happens for those with a PACT contract more often than for those who arrived with a contract for a rating).

Is he EO? A school for EO is in Missouri.

He is!! His original paperwork said Port Hueneme though. I guess maybe he officially decided to be a EO??

BabyFox, you indicated in November that his contract is for EO. The location of his "A" School did not change; he must have discovered that he was mistaken about its location. "A" School for EO is in Fort Leonard Wood, MO as I indicated in a comment on your My Page on 28 November.

BabyFox - Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, might not have any of the glamour that CA might offer but it really isn't that bad. Other than being called "Ft Lost in the Woods, if your son likes hills and trees they are all around him at Ft. Wood (as us natives shorten it.) - I grew up 30 min from Ft. Leonard Wood, it is an Army base, so I didn't realize there was any sort of Navy training that went on there. My husband was there as well.

Chipmunk, Many bases are Joint Services Bases now. Ft. Wood is not the only Army Base that has a Navy "A" School. The CS "A" School is at Ft. Lee, the MC "A" School is at Ft. George G. Meade, the RP "A" School is at Ft. Jackson, and the HM "A" School is at Ft. Sam Houston. The MA "A" School is at Lackland AFB, the AG "A" School is at Keesler AFB, and the CE and UT "A" Schools are at Sheppard AFB.

@lemonelephant do all the branches cross train these days? Seems like one branch takes a specific training and any branch can go there. Seems to be cost effective. Have you heard if a recruit has a better chance getting in a specific training if their branch sponsors the school? There is so much out there to read and not sure what’s true.
