OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Dental work and PIR?
Hello, everyone!
I know this is the boot camp group, but I thought ya'll might be able to answer my question better than the DEP group.
My husband leaves for RTC on November 4. From what lemonelephant has told me, his projected PIR is December 31 (9 Fridays after he arrives, minus one day for the holiday). I know that in P days, they get dental work done. Well, my husband went to the dentist today and found out he will need several fillings and to also repair a few fillings (it's been awhile since he went to the dentist!).
My question is--
If the sailors have dental work done in P days, does that delay the start of their actual training days? Would that delay his graduation? I ask because I am a teacher, and if he graduates on Dec 31, I won't have to use any of my few days to see him graduate, because we will be on Christmas Break.
We are trying to figure out if we should just go ahead and pay to get the dental work done, so that he would graduate "on time" (I know there are many other factors that could play into PIR date) or just save money/be cheap and wait for it to be taken care of at RTC.

If my daughter's experience is any indicator of the bedside manner of the dentist, get the work done at home. My daughter said the dentist she had wasn't very nice and basically "yelled" at her the entire time she cleaned her teeth, saying things like "well, if you flossed this wouldn't hurt."

My son had dental work done in BC, he even had wisdom teeth removed. It didn't delay his grad date and his experience was fine. He was "forced" to do SIQ days but said he didn't really need them.

My son got dental work done all during boot camp, and he had his wisdom teeth pulled, too. He also told me that his dentist was very nice. He had no problems at all and it did not delay his PIR.

- My granddaughter had a wisdom tooth pulled, had a slight infection and had three SIQ days, it did not delay her PIR and that was in July of this year, she also said the dentist she had was really nice.

Let the Navy do the dental work, they are very good at it, and it does not delay them. Anything major, other than simple wisdom tooth extractions, is done after, in A school.
Also, there are two Fridays during the holiday stand down when there is no graduation. I would be very surprised to see a Dec. 31st PIR. The staff goes on stand down too, and while there is still training, they are paced at a different tempo. Either they are pushed to finish before the holidays, or they are delayed until after.
