Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son left yesterday

I dropped my son off at the recruiters office Tuesday 6/10/14 and I did really good. I didn't even cry, but it did feel like when I dropped him off to go to MEPS the first time, like he would be right back. I've been fine since he left until today. I was cleaning my house and my song to him and my daughter comes on "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts and it hits me, just like that! He really left:( I know he'll be fine and I'm really proud of him but why does it have to hurt so much!? I hope I don't feel like this the whole time, I see other moms saying it does get better, I sure hope so.

Proudnavymomx2, I believe he will stay at Great Lakes, (which I found out by doing some research on this site). He is a Fireman Apprentice.

Marni, Yes even though it doesn't seem like it now. I know we will get through it and so will our kids. That's what makes it so hard though not being able to talk to them and find out how they're doing and feeling.

Navymomof2, Thank you for being here for us new Navy Moms. The advice we get from the more experienced Navy Moms makes this whole experience just a little easier. I'm starting to write to my son today even though I know I won't get his address for about a week, but I think writing letters will help me cope.

Count Fridays instead of days...it makes it pass faster. We should be getting their boxes this week and maybe even the form letter later in the week or early next week. That really makes a difference because you know when the end will be and you can start planning if you are going to PIR. The box needs to be signed for so if you aren't going to be home, make sure to leave a note for the FedEx person so they know to leave the box. Watch the Boot Camp group page for info and there will be a Facebook page for our PIR group once we find out what our PIR date is. Another good FB group to join is Navy Mom PIR Friends. There are moms from all "ages" in that group.

Hello JosnRissa'smom.... My son leaves for Basic on the 24, although I will say goodbye to him on the 23rd at the hotel the night before MEPS.  I am a crying mess. how are you doing?

Bensma; Enjoy your time with your son.  I started having lil moments where I felt like I was gonna break down a few weeks before he left but I just put that aside and started making my son all his favorite foods & taking him to lunches at his favorite restraunts and I got through it & dropping him off. He's the one who wanted me to drop him off at the recruiters office and not go to MEPS and so I think that kind of made saying goodbye a little easier for both of us but only for the moment it just delayed the feelings of sadness and stress I'm feeling now. I think It was probably a good thing for him because he got there & probably has just been so busy he doesn't have time to look back. I'm really anxious to hear from him and find out how he's doing and feeling . I'm hanging in there, I'll be ok and I'm taking the advice of other moms & writing a lot of letters and starting to count Fridays instead of days.
