Anyone ever not get that short phone call upon arrival? My son went to BC yesterday. I expected a call from him late last night but nothing. I did speak to him when he arrived at the airport and he texted when they were getting on the bus to head to Great Lakes. But i thought everyone got a phone call.
I can only hope that he didn't lose anything (phone card, wallet) or that the phone card didn't work.  We did make sure it worked at home.
It's making me a little anxious this morning.

My son went to boot camp last November and I didn't get the call when he arrived either. When I was able to talk to him a few weeks later he said that they were only given a couple of minutes and he couldn't get his phone card to work. There was really no time to try it more than once, they were rushed in and out. He also said that some of the others got phones that didn't work. They really don't give them any time at all. If he had been able to get the phone card to work he pretty much would have only had time to say "I'm here, I'm fine, Good Bye." I know it's hard but don't stress too much. Remember, no news is good news. He will call when they are allowed to in a few weeks. Best of luck to you!
Thanks for the reassurance.  At least we spoke when we was at the airport.  And, I know he was getting on the bus.  So, now I will just wait.
Yes, susanm is right......it happens.  Disappointing I understand cuz we're anxious wanting to hear.  Butttt, they do run out of time etc etc.  It's all good.  He's fine or you would have heard.  Welcome!
We got about a 30 second call and then did not get another one for weeks.  We got his personal things in a box in a few days then we got the form letter with his address but that was the communication for a while

Hi Celianj,

It has been awhile since i have been on this blog, our son was in BC in July.

The same thing happened to us, we were waiting for his phone call that first night, it never came.

Thank God he called us the next day, and said there had been a snafu and there where to many people there at night to get all the phone calls in.

So believe me no news is good news. Hang in there.

As all the comments before, no news is good news.  If anything goes wrong you will be the first to know.  As we have all learned it is a lot of waiting and then more waiting.  They are in good hands and being well cared for.  You know where they are and that they are safe.  That first phone call will be well worth it and more than that when you get the "I am a Sailor call" you will be so proud and so will he.  My grandson said he cried like a baby when he got to take off that Recruit cap and put on his Navy cap after Battlestations.  You will be amazed at the change when you get to see him for the first time.  If at all possible you surely need to attend PIR(boot camp graduation)-it was amazing-lots of tears and you will so very Proud.

My son should have arrived last night and I didn't hear from him either, I keep telling myself he is fine, but I worry too.
TJ-my grandson said when they got their there were so many of them it was hard to get a phone, some of the phones didnt work and his calling card gave him trouble.  He said it was difficult to get the calls to go through in the amount of time they were being allowed to call with the calling card.  Anyway, I am sure he is safe and sound and being well cared for.  Hang in there.  It is going to be a lot of waiting and then more waiting but this site is a great help.  When you find out his PIR date there should be a site where everyone with someone graduating on that date will be discussing everything going on with your group-you will get a form letter with his address and anticipated PIR date.  Just stay on this site and you will get lots of support and questions answered.
thanks, it helps that we are all in the same boat! so to speak :)

Reading these posts makes me realize if my son hadn't had his cell phone, I might not have gotten the call either.  Even though he had his phone, it was a very short and to the point call.  I don't think he knows how to use the calling card I sent with him, so hopefully he can figure it out by the time he is able to make a call home (which should be this week).

Celainj - just know that your son is in good hands.  I know it is not easy to not worry.  I worry about my son too, but coming here helps.  These ladies are wonderful and I've found no matter what you are feeling, someone here has felt the same thing and has just the right words of encouragement to offer when needed!

My son had his phone with him, because we spoke when he landed in Chicago.  I guess he figured it wasn't so important to call since we had already spoken and left the phone for others who needed to speak to family.
My son and I talked at about 7:30 last night after they had landed, but I did not get a call after that either.
