So my son Kyle left for BC on Aug 2 also....he made his first call to his Dad ( my ex husband) ...I was having a hard few days just like the rest of you and today this happened.....
For some reason this just made all my worries go away and I ended up having a good day myself...I hope the rest of you moms are doing better each day too...I do miss him, but this is what he wanted and I am so proud of him as we all are of our kids right now.....

It did so much....today was the best day I have had all week...it just takes time.
Stephanie,
It was wonderful...I am sorry your son did not call, but think of it this way..just like I was upset that Kyle called his dad (my ex husband who I am still good friends with by the way) my new husband said to me that night..." Kyle called Keith and not you cause he would not have been able to handle hearing your voice"...so maybe your son just did not want to make it harder on you and himself...hang in there.....
If you do not mind me asking where are you guys from...I am in Edenville Mi...just outside of Midland.
Chat soon,
Jo
Jo,
We are from Edmond, Oklahoma. Even though my son didn't call from Great Lakes, he did call me from the airport at around 2 pm before flying out of OKC (we didn't go), but it was a very short call - he said his cell phone battery was getting low and told me there were 9 of them flying out. He sounded pretty happy at that point. My son's dad is my ex as well, and I called him to check and see if maybe he called him instead and he did not call him either. So, maybe you are right. He may have been feeling teary himself once the reality of it all set in and just couldn't call.
I think I will go ahead and start writing my 1st letter to him tonight. Maybe it will help me feel better. I've been trying to read a book and I keep having to re-read sections because my mind keeps wandering to what's going on with our boys in GL! I hope I get an address very soon!
HIYA STEPHANIE!
My son left on Thursday as well. We live in Midwest City,Ok!!!
This has been one of the most difficult things to go through for me. I started crying on Monday and today was the first day that I made it the whole day without crying at all. I am anxious to get an adress I desperately want to know how he is doing!
Staying busy has been key for me. I found a great Navy emblem counted cross stitch to work on.
Hey! I grew up in Midwest City!!! What a small world! We should meet sometime for lunch or something. Are you on Facebook? I find that a little easier to communicate with individual people. I'll see if I can figure out how to send you a message here and send you some information. Inbox me your info if you are interested, and we can talk more! I'm so excited that you saw this here. My son said there were 9 of them that flew out together from OKC, so I was hoping someone in my area who is also on navy moms would find me. I hope they end up in the same ship/div! How fun would that be? I just tried to send a message to you and it won't allow me to it says until you accept my friend request. I didn't know that I had sent one. lol!
What a blessing to all of us. God took care of you and reminded the rest of us that no matter how hard this is He is watching over our Children.
