My son also made it to boot camp and I had my phone with me the whole night. I checked it a little while ago and I must have hit the ringer off sometime and didn't know it and he had to leave a message saying he make it to boot camp, he gets another call in 3 weeks, he will write and send a box. He sounded distressed on the message - my husband told me to get over it. Could be my imagination about hm being distressed. He probably felt rushed.

My husband is ex Navy from years ago and he doesn't believe in emotion - says emotion makes people weak. I am glad my son made it and I haven't slept in 3 nights. I know it is crazy sounding but I am not sure I can do this.

Peggy - My husband came home from work last night and said he had been playing the message my son left on his voice mail all day long. He isn't gong to delete the message so we can hear his voice whenever we like. After listening to it again I didn't think he sounded distressed he sounded calm (I think I was the distressed one). Thank you for the support

My Son left yesterday as well.  He's going to Goose Creek for Nuke school after PIR.  I got the call that he arrived safely. Just a suggestion to all..... even though you don't have an address yet go ahead and start writing him/her letters.  You can mail them all when you get the address.  My other son is in week 3 of Marine Corps boot camp and he's said over and over in his letters how much the correspondence means to him.

My SR arrived on Oct. 5th.  He is going on to Goose Creek for Nuke school after PIR, too!

My daughter left for bootcamp today too.  I was an absolute basket case yesterday.  I didn't think I would ever stop crying.  Do the knots in your stomach and the heart flutters ever go away. Better today - was able to see her take her oath this morning.  Just rec'd a text from her.  Just boarding her flight to Chicago.  For now I've decided to handle this in 3 week increments.  3 weeks to Halloween.  3 1/2 weeks to Thanksgiving.  3 weeks - boot camp done.  Keeping our fingers crossed that she might be able to come home for Christmas.

I know how you feel. I have been the same way this week. Our son left on Tuesday. I think the 3 week increments is a great idea. Right now though, I'm just trying to make it through each day. I cried so much yesterday I had to leave work and come home. I'm a teacher and it isn't good to be crying when you are teaching. Today has been better. I hope tomorrow and the day after that is a little better for you too. We can make it through with lots of prayer and with the support of Navy for moms. Take care and hang in there.
I am still crying Maggie's Mom and it has been 2 days. The 3 week increments is a great idea. I have two letters written already and have counted down 52 days left. Our son said he will be able to come home for Christmas but I don't think he really knows for sure - it was his recruiter putting this in  his head and the recruiter has no clue. Are you going to graduation?
Don't know at this point.  Would love to be there, of course.  Maggz and I talked about it before she left. She said because she didn't know if she would have anytime to spend with us that maybe it would be best to wait until things were abit more "solid".  I don't know about that....been checking airfare to Chicago!  Yeh, Maggz said the same thing about Christmas and I feel exactly the same as you do.
Thank you all so much for the uplifting words of encouragement. It means alot and this site does help!! Today was a better day. Im always wondering what he is doing and how he is doing.
Thanks so much for the uplifting words.  I feel like I'm on a roller coaster.  Up down up down.  Right now...in between loops.  I wento to be last night with both the regular phone and my cell phone lying beside my pillow.  The call from my girl came at about 1:00AM this morning.  Short, sweet, and to the point.  I was relieved to know she was finally at the RTC.  She said she might be able to call again in 2 or 3 weeks.  I hope so.  Having her so far away from home is one thing but not being able to talk to her is killing me inside.  How can I give encouraging words after she's had a tough day when I can't even speak to her.  Just being a protective Mom but I guess that's what we do.  Protect our kids.  I only have her so this is going to be a tough one on me.  I've written her one letter and started a 2nd.  I'll never allow there to be a mail call with no mail for her. I'm only on day 2...how are you other Boot Camp Mom's dealing with this?

I am still having a hard time with it but I am hoping it all gets easier.  My husband, brother, sister in law, nephew are all ex-Navy and they keep telling me "he is ok". OMG - my husband just called me as I am writing this and said our son just called him. They got another phone call. My husband said the call lasted 5 seconds and he said Peter told him he is fine and he loves us both. That is all the time he had to talk and would call back in a couple weeks. That was a great pick me up.

I am not expecting the box until Monday at least. He got there Wednesday evening and we got our call at 9:11pm and boxes probably not shipped out until yesterday UPS ground. Your son got there the day before ours did. Not sure I want to open it when it comes. I may just put it in his room for now. My son's girlfriend is a senior in high school and she also joined and will ship out July 19th.  She will be going with us to graduation.
