For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Weather driving to Chicago in October?

I was looking at flights for me and my husband and 2 of my teenage boys for 10/20 PIR date and they are pretty high coming from Texas. If I were to drive would I be hitting any "bad" weather snow, ice, tornados. I have driven to Florida but never up. I know weather is unpredictable so I don't expect to accurately know but maybe soneone has driven this route before during this time of the year?

You are right, the weather is unpredictable. Late October is usually blustery and cold, but it can also be sunny and very pleasant. You might call it cold, coming from Texas, but some of us in the North really like September and October. No bad storms, no bugs! It is pretty rare to get measurable snow that early. Sometimes there are flakes in the air, but they don't stick to the ground. I never think about snow and ice in October and I am more north than Chicago. Mostly rain and wind. It is past tornado season up here in October. You might even see some pretty fall colors along your drive.

I live near Chicago, October is really one of the prettiest months, some rain but normally good weather.

Hi NavyMamaB, we are also in Texas and have decided to drive. It is WAY cheaper to rent a car and drive than to fly from here. It's a 19hr drive from our area, which isn't too bad.
