My son called last night.  He was tired, sunburned, but very happy.  They've been assigned either platoons, been issued equiptment, fitted for fatigues, and have learned to eat, run, and march very fast LOL.

On a side note, a co-worker told me to thank my son for his service as a Corpsman.  Her nephew (a Marine) almost lost his life last week.  She said that if it wasn't for the Corpsman's quick actions and knowledge, he wouldn't have made it.  He's got a long recovery ahead, but his spirits are high.  I'm passing on her "Thank you".  Be proud of our young men.  And thanks to their families :)

Thanks JLC and Carol.  I looked at the website....

Hmmm, he was an E3 last week, so corporal would be E4 and a rank advancement for him....but, do Corpsmen in FMTB get ranked as Marines? He did write "corporal" on his Facebook page.  I am confused...but as I said, it all sounds good so am also happy:)  I hope to hear from him tonight to clarify.

Thank you for welcoming new moms...I have lots of questions:)  My son started FMTB in Pendleton on Monday.  I am so happy for him and proud of his accomplishments.  I have not talked to him since he started but on his facebook post last night he put "Corporal of third platoon......Whoo rahh marines."  Does this mean he got a rank advancement?  Or are all Corpsman considered Corporals when they start FMTB?  Either way, it sounds like he is happy, which makes me happy.

Also, I was planning on sending him a care package so I am glad I read your comments before doing so.  More questions to come!!!  Thanks moms.

Mariann -  That was one thing my asked me not to send while at FMTB.  I used to send cookies / brownies every week while he was in A School, but he didn't want to draw attention to himself at Camp P.  I did, however, try to surprise him with a birthday present because he turned 21 while there.  Well, it didn't go over well because I didn't know his building number and when Fed Ex tried to call him, he got really frustrated becuase HE didn't know the building number.  Yep, Mom got the call.  I think he really did appreciate it though - after the fact.  He said it was so intense at times that he didn't want to deal with any distractions.  Anyway, that was my story about packages - there might be others that have better experiences.

Good luck to your son.  The eight weeks will fly by!

My son starts FMTB on Monday.  He was very excited, and a little apprehensive when they moved over on Friday.  He has several friends that were in A school with him at Great Lakes that have been keeping him informed on what to expect.  We're ready for another ride on this roller coaster. :)  Anyone else starting on Monday?

You might be right JLC - I have Windows 7 at home and at work.  Glad you could at least do the one at home!!

JLC - just click on the time and at the bottom of the box it will say "Change date and time settings."  Click on that and the box that opens up will have a second tab called "Additional Clocks"  Just add it there.  It really helps me since I don't have to count six fingers! LOL - anything to make it easier!

My son is six hours ahead of us, so he makes it a point to call me on my lunch break at least once a week to check in.  He knows when he gets off work, I'm on my lunch!  You do learn little ways to remember - such as having our time zone clock and his time zone clock on my computer.  Now, all I have to do is click on the time in the lower right-hand corner.

Mariann - Good luck to your son!!  I
