God bless, Wendy. We lost my mother in law Christmas night to cancer 3 years ago. It was the same with my father in law (he's now 73), not taking care of himself, not caring about a lot. Well pops has a live in girlfriend. We all couldn't be any happier. He's told her she'll never take moms place but you can tell they love each other. Funny, it's actually my husbands aunt. She was married to my father in laws brother many years back when all the kids were little and they divorced and married others. Her hubby has been gone (passed) a few years now. I was torn up over my mother in law (shed some tears the other day as a matter of fact relecting). I can't imagine how I'll be the day my own parents time come. Is your dad near you all? I hope so, that makes it easier.

Welcome, Cynthia. Our son was on hold for about 2-3 weeks after his grad n go to PNS. He got there then had to wait. Then he graduated A schooling and had to wait about the same. Some poor kids (sailors) have had to wait 6+ months. Personally, I think that's all because of the economy and enlistments and re-enlists up. When our son graduated bootcamp 1/30/09 I sat beside a lady that was a cook there at GL. She said they graduate 800+ sailors each and every Friday. Woah is that a lot. Don't we all wish we still had the Navy base in Orlando?

hey there Pam, don't feel blue. Your little boy is growing into a fine upstanding young man. I always miss mine more around the holidays, birthdays, whatever and he will have his 15 year in anniversary on Aug. 13th. and I miss him as much now as I did 15 years ago when I said good bye to a scared unsure 18 year old. But you know the good thing? Its always so great when he is home on leave and yes I still cry when its over and we have to say good bye til the next time. Keep your chin up, I know your son will miss you just as much on his birthday as you do. Thank heaven for email.

Pam, I know what you mean. Our sons bday he was in Pensacola at A schooling. We'd seen him the week before but it still felt 'not right' not being able to be with him. I told him to make sure to let his buddies know it was his bday and he never did so no celebrations happened. I sometimes think this stuff bothers us so very much more than it does our sailors. Personally, I'm hoping Justin opts for only 4 years and comes back to Orlando because this is killing the mama (me) him not being near the rest of the family. Guess it's always something we'll miss with them: birthdays, holidays, parties, special occassions, etc.

Hi there everybody. I think it sounds great too. Justin is also trying to come home from WA for Christmas so we shall see. One of his good buddies just enlisted for boot camp to probably start soon. So I'll prob try to make contact with his mom (I've never met her) to bring to our get togethers.

Diane, for our next luncheon/get together here's another idea: in Maitland right off of I4 there is an Einstein Bagels. They have a huge glassed off meeting room that you can reserve (we use it for work and it accomodates about 30-40 people). I think it's free as long as you have $50 worth of orders. It'd make it much easier to do what we do and be able to talk to each other and be loud if we want. Just a suggestion.
