Dear Friend,

With Thanksgiving around the corner and so many service members around the world spending this holiday away from their families, I would like to take this opportunity to focus on the gratitude that our American service members so richly deserve. It’s crucial to keep in mind the heroic example set by our men and women in the Armed Forces, our veterans who have served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Sometimes people are unsure of the best way to thank a service member or their family for the sacrifices they make.

There are great examples of individuals taking the initiative and developing their own way to express their gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our military personnel and their families sacrificing to support them. More often than not, the families and loved ones are the unsung heroes supporting their service from the home front. In addition, there are many support organizations that have ways to express your support. We should take any opportunity we can as Americans to thank a service member and their family, especially since one in ten members of the military are from Texas.

I just hate how they've ruined this wonderful site where new woman come for comfort and seeking some empathy, advice, and friendship. Note, I did not say sympathy, I said empathy. Its all in the delivery. A terrific lack of compassion.

DAVID KOPEL (Civil Rights Attorney)
"They will never outlaw all of your guns at once. But every 'reasonable' control they can impose without your resistance gives them one more bit of leverage to make gun ownership for you and your children and your grandchildren as difficult as possible."
ARISTOTLE
"Both Oligarch and Tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of arms." (Politics, Aristotle p. 218)
THOMAS PAINE (Author: Common Sense & The Rights of Man, urged Declaration of Independence)
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
"...arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe...Horrid mischief would ensue were the good deprived of the use of them."

And last, MLK said "A right delayed is a right denied."

Deborah, I don't think that will ever happen. Thomas Jefferson and many others ensured it wouldn't through the constitution. That being said, there is a huge increase in re-loading and other methods because it is true things happen one slow step at a time until no one understands how it encroached its way into our lives. My dad found his dads gun permit and wouldn't let me have it - he said I'm not letting obama get a hold of that. Once you are registered, they have a paper trail. I just can't see NRA and this country's hunters allowing it to happen. People that live in a bubble don't see how some everyday people live, like those who hunt for their dinner.

CHARLES MORGAN (Director, American Civil Liberties Union, Washington, D.C. office)
"I have not one doubt, even if I am in agreement with the National Rifle Association, that that kind of record keeping procedure (gun registration) is the first step to eventual confiscation under one administration or another" in a 1975 hearing before the House Subcommittee on Crime
and by Clinton:
"The last time I checked, the Constitution said 'of the people, by the people and for the people'. That's what the Declaration of Independence says." Reuters News Agency ([Editor's note: actually those words are in neither of those documents, but part of The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln]

Katy, I don't know you personally, but I thank you for information that I can copy and paste and pass along to others who debate with me. I used to use Pam and Mary for that, but now I have another source! LOL I don't have the time to research, etc. and keep up, but its easier when its all compiled in one place. Thanx

sorry to change topic, but this is close to home.
My newsletter from military.com (and I get one from the Navy) article said, "How could one of our own do this?" referring to Ft. Hood.
I have a friend who is an instructor there. (Also another very close acquaintance) The sentiment is, we've been safe since 9/11 within our borders, and then you begin an attitude where you arn't allowed to call a terrorist a terrorist. You apologize for American and bow to foreign leaders, and make every issue a politically correct topic so that everyone is walking on egg shells and afraid to come forth with crucial information.... Thank God there were those who were whistleblowers and wern't afraid to be labeled "racial profilers" but by the time it gets through all the layers of management, they are afraid to take action, and this is what happens. Its always after the fact people wake up, then they forget, get lazy in their objectiveness and it happens again.

Did anyone ask Chuck(ie) where we might find that $100 million dollars? Oh wait...perhaps we can just raise taxes somemore.
