My corpsman is in a holding pattern at the moment - he reported to base last night and was informed all flights had been delayed for 24 hours! Fortunately his buddy was still on base and he was able to stay another night at his home - will be baking tonight and mailing he and his wife some Christmas goodies for their hospitality to my boy!

Welcome Dana! Enjoy your son's time home for the holidays! You are in good company here, lots of great corpsmen moms that have been and/or are going through their kid's deployments. We're all here for you!

Hi, Dana! Welcome! my son was at Camp Lajuene until recently, deployed twice from there, once with an MEU and another time to Iraq. I really don't know if there are public ceremonies for field training (FMTB), they basically get their pins and pack and go, from now on training is ongoing, no real break on it
until deployment. It is always happening. When they return, they are back in day to day training, it's how they stay at the top of their field.

Please feel free to join us on the Moms with Kids in Iraq/Afghanistan group, lots of seasoned moms there as well as here.

It is very frightening to have a child in a war zone, please remember we all are here to listen and many have kids in that same position, some have more than one! Good luck!

Welcome! if I were you as the mom of someone still in school, I'd find that group, I'm pretty sure there is one. They have a ton of information in discussions for you to read, and maybe even a mom that has a child in your son's class, too. I'm sorry, I don't know the name of it, maybe search the groups section for all the groups with "corpsman" in it? any thoughts, anyone?

I didn't attend corpsman grad, so I know nothing about it. My son left directly from there to come home and then to Camp Lajuene, I think. It was 5 years ago, and I'm old! Sorry!

As did I. I am concerned as well. My son says her son's company is doing pretty good, that newspaper article I linked to on Sunday was his unit they are with. He said there was a video about her son's company on the unit web site, I hope she saw it.
You have to keep reaching out when your sailor is deployed, the responses do lift your heart even for a little while, and being able to go back to read them at 3 am when you're up and worrying helps as well. You just don't feel so alone, the only one so much.

Kristine, if you're lurking, we're still here, we are still praying, and it's got to be a tough holiday, please share it with us if you need to...

Ruthella - I have a delightful little poem on my fridge about my pets, pretty much tells anyone that questions why so many - why not! Seems like whenever one of the kids moves out I get another dog, up to 7 dogs right now and we only had 5 kids - no clue how that happened! LOL

Welcome to all of our new moms! Ruthella - you tripped me up with that "premie" comment too! LOL - here I was trying to scroll backward to see who had a baby! Duh - not always the sharpest of tools am I! Got a box in the mail today, I'm not allowed to open until Christmas when my cub calls me from Naples - little turd is torturing me and he's not even left American soil yet! Expecting one last call before he heads out and his cell phone doesn't work anymore, wishing I had made the trip to VA myself but know he's better off doing it this way.

Sharon, he was proud of you for that, and probably grateful, too!

Cindy, even when I had spoken with my son, heard his voice tell me he was on USA soil, when I opened that email from a Navy mom with his photo right as he arrived boots down at Camp Lajuene, I wept like a crazy woman. The dog thought the world had ended. I was just so relieved he was on USA soil and I was seeing it. I hope there's a mom there that will do that!

I did that at PIR, and emailed photos of sailors to their families that couldn't come to the ceremony, especially my son's friends. Fed them as well...shared the computer and phones. Had to do it!
