Link to Roll Call, a non-partisan commentary and news venue about the Gulf Streams.

The version Gulfstream sells to the military is reconfigured for the government with modest accommodations, not the luxury version sold to private customers, said a source familiar with the planes.
The language of the appropriations bill specifies that of the three aircraft, the Air Force will provide “one aircraft each for the 201st Airlift Squadron and the 89th Airlift Wing.” Both are based out of Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

The 89th Airlift Wing provides “global Special Air Mission (SAM) airlift, logistics, aerial port and communications for the President, Vice President, Combat Commanders, senior leaders and the global mobility system,” according to the Andrews Web site.

King told Roll Call, “the 201st Airlift Squadron provides short-notice worldwide transportation for the executive branch, Congressional Members, Department of Defense officials and high-ranking U.S. and foreign dignitaries.”

John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, a defense information Web site, said military officials “need a long-range airplane — and [it’s] better to fly them on a small one than a big one.”

Pike said it is unreasonable to expect a three-star general and a staff of five people to attend meetings around the world with several stops in far-flung locales while traveling on commercial airlines.

My thought would be that these are the replacement planes for the same type of aircraft that put top military and defense officials safely in the air after 9/11, same as President Bush's long range flight in Air Force One at that same time.

Uli,

My son and my son-in-law are both stationed at Camp LeJeune. Is it a small world or are most of our Corpsman from there ?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Carol - that's neat that your boys are getting to share time together! My older son is a golf pro in northern AL, he's coming home next Tues to spend the week with Devin before he heads out. Our town has a Christmas Boat Parade next Saturday night and living on the river we always host a kick off the holidays party, this will be my Christmas with both boys as this is the first year that both will be away at Christmas! I just can't wait for them to both be here!

Carol - don't know about you but I have seen my man cub in passing a few times! LOL - I made mac n chz from scratch on Monday night to ensure a drop by eating! So little time and so many people to see and things to do, they are probably thrilled to go back to the Navy and a normal schedule! :0)

Well, y'all know our favorite teeth story - my hubs usually has his in his pocket rather than in his mouth! Always a challenge when we have to go out and he can't remember where he last put them down. My rule is that if we are going somewhere that shoes are required, so are teeth! LOL

FOX SOX link

There is a "wish list" for soldiers/sailors/marines that need these socks! share with your friends and church, civic groups...all those people that say "I wish I could do something..." all they have to do is order online, one pair or dozens...it all will help!

Well friends, I will be out on the road all day tomorrow so keep it to a minimum will you as I can no longer ago backwards in posts! LOL Am turning off the computer and heading home, we've had no water at the office all afternoon due to a water main break and I know exactly what my poor puppy must feel like every afternoon waiting for me to get home so he can potty! Have a great night!
