ICYMI - There is a FAKE "Marine Corps Times" page on Facebook that is circulating a fake story about moving the FMF corpsmen from the Navy to the Marines. It's a hoax, a fake, not true. Please let your corpsman know to ignore and not share anything from the page with the address Facebook.com/TheMarineCorpsTimes.com. The official page for Marine Corps Times does NOT have the word "The"as part of its name in the address bar. The legal department of Gannett Media (parent company of Marine Corps Times) is pursuing action and is trying to get Facebook to get the page taken down. Here's a screenshot of the link to the FAKE story:
The Jacksonville NC airport is small; only US Air and Delta fly there and many of the days around the holiday are completely sold out.
If your son is able to rent a car, he could drive the 2+ hours to Raleigh-Durham airport. You can try the Southwest Airlines website, they fly between Raleigh-Durham and San Antonio. Most of the cheap flights are gone, but you may get lucky.
In re car rental: if your son is under 25, he can get the 25 and under surcharge waived if he banks with USAA and books by clicking through their Travel Services car rental link. There is an Enterprise car rental office on base at Camp Lejeune.
For anyone with a sailor at A School in San Antonio, the USO and the restaurant Boudro's on the River Walk are hosting a Thanksgiving Day meal event FREE to all active duty troops, retirees and their families to celebrate the holiday. When and where: Thursday November 27th, 11 am to 3 pm at "Charles Court" located at 205 North Presa between Commerce and Market Street.
If your sailor takes a cab from Ft Sam Houston, they can stop into the USO Center (open 11am-4pm tomorrow) a few steps from the event and receive a $5 voucher towards cab fare back to base.
I just saw this from Fleet and Family Support. Now that we're used to the nine digit zip code, here comes a change!
The Navy is changing mailing addresses for ships, afloat units, and ashore FPOs to improve service, reduce costs and get mail to service members more efficiently. Here's what you need to know -
1. No more nine digit zip codes
The new Navy Standardized Addressing format only requires the use of a five-digit zip code, more like standard mail. The USPS process will automatically generate a barcode with any additional digits that are required for delivery. This change will eliminate undeliverable as addressed (UAA) mail currently being returned to sender.
2. New virtual boxes
A new four digit virtual box number will be added to the standard addressing format. This number will be unique to each service member and will aid in getting your mail to you and not someone else.
3. Faster delivery!
With the new format, the Postal Service is anticipating reducing transit time by 7 to 21 days for letter mail and publications. That makes it more likely that you'll receive the August issue of Sports Illustrated in the mail before Thanksgiving!
4. Less Expensive
The new Navy Standardized Addressing format is expected to save Navy postal operators $1.2 million annually in labor and transportation costs.
5. Any Questions?
Visit your base/command post office or talk to a postal clerk or read the NAVADMIN on the Navy Personnel Command website.
