Welcome!! My son's PIR was 8/30/13. It was UNBELIEVABLE! So emotional and moving, take lots of tissues! I have good news for you, we were able to spend the entire weekend with our son. They usually have a curfew around 9:30-10:00. Yes, he will NOT stay in GL for A-school but go to VA. My son actually had to stay at GL for 4 weeks waiting for a class to form. He arrived in VA on 9/28 and still has not started school. He will start next week. FINALLY. Lots of hurry up and wait. I have read a lot on this site and most recruits stay in GL for at least a week after PIR. We are from IL, so we were able to make a couple of trips to visit him before he shipped out to VA. I miss him so much still! My husband is Air Force and I have been used to him deploying frequently or attending schools for weeks at a time. But, this is different. The mother-son bond is tight! Not a day goes by that I don't get a lump in my throat thinking of him.
Welcome and enjoy! :-)

Thank you for the information well I am going to hope that he stays atlease through the weekend so We can see him longer before he heads to VA I have already learned about the Militery they give a new meaning to Hurry up and Wait :)

So good to meet someone who has been down the same Journey so I know what to expect along the way... GL or VA its all still far far from me but I am going to have all kinds of flyer miles haha once in A school what will their life be like? will they get Liberty on weekends or just certain times ????

So far, also considering he hasn't started class yet, liberty is given of an evening and on weekends. But, with some restrictions to start with. My son says he loves it so far in VA. Rooms are nicer than college dorms. He only has 1 roommate, full size refrigerator and a microwave.
Glad I could be of some help. Wish I would have found this group, site, early in "our" Navy adventures. Found it about 2 weeks before PIR.
Looking forward to exchanging experiences with other Navy and CS moms. It's good to have "group therapy"! LOL I'm willing to share anything I can with you.
