For those of you who don't know ... The new CS "A-School" is located at Fort Lee (Army base) in Virginia. The Navy and Air Force share a brand new building for thier barracks. The school itself is also brand new and state of the art.

so does this mean the grads will be going to VA for A school instead of GL? My son tells me it also may only be for 2-4 wks. they will be there. Do you happen to know where they will go after that. Another school or a ship? Thanks for any info

Yes, ALL grads go to FT Lee, VA now for CS A School. Depending on their rate/chosen job will determine where they go after that. They will either get their orders for another school or get their first duty station assignment. Prior to that 1st duty assignment, they are entitled to a two week liberty home. (again, not written in stone)  My son graduated CS A School on March 11, 2011, and is on hold there in VA, waiting to go to Submarine (BESS) school in Groton, CT. They have no idea when he will get his orders to CT.

CS A School is 5 weeks long. When they arrive there it is possible they will be on hold until they "class up"-meaning getting enough to form the next class.

My son's recruiter said it was still in Great Lakes, as of last Friday, 8 Jul 11. So when did it move?

The CS moved to Fort Lee, VA in January.  Here is an article about it-http://www.ftleetraveller.com/news/local_news/article_6944fae4-298f...

They post pictures of graduations and videos on their facebook page - Great way of seeing the facilities-

My son really likes CS there despite being in an army base.

Thanks Val. How can we find out when classes start?

If he isn't to the end of boot camp there is no way to find out when classes start.

After they graduate from Boot Camp  they sometimes they go directly to A school and sometimes they have to wait.  Once they get to A school they start in the next class so it may be a week to wait again.  Until they finish boot camp there is no way of knowing a time frame for sure.   Once my son arrived in Fort Lee on a Wednesday he began class the following Monday but he had a waiting period to get there.  I have learned flexibility and not being able to plan too far - which was initially hard for me.   Just patiently adjust to boot camp and limited contact and information.  My son really grew during his time in boot camp and appreciated the discipline there. If they all work hard they are sometimes rewarded with extra phone calls home - great incentive.

My son continues to truly enjoy CS in Fort Lee and really likes the instructors there.   If your son would like to contact my son personally i would be glad to put them in touch - Friend me for personal info.      Blessings, Val

Val, I am not sure if you will get this I see your son was in Fort Lee one year ago. I have read your post and feel encouraged by it. thank you. where is your son posted at now? is he still in CS rating>

Thank you so much for posting the facebook page..I didn't even know they had one and I got to see pix of my son's graduation! Makes me sad I couldn't have been there, but thanks so much for the information.

Because we live close to great lakes, I am bummed to learn that he will be going to VA for A school/ His recruiter did tell me recently too that it was in GL, and another navy person told me it was in TX . so thank goodness for the Navy Moms who know what is happening! If they are on hold to "class up" , or fill up their class, do they ever stay in great lakes or just wait in VA? also how long is the a school?

The school is about five or six weeks and then they go to their boat. My son's first boat is home based in Japan, USS Blue Ridge. He is liking it so far. Hopefully I can get over to see him while he is there.

nice!  is this the "A" school that all grads go to after boot camp?

On facebook the CS school had a graudating class on July 20th.  Anybody know when the next class might start?  My son is on hold in Great Lakes with about 25 other CS.  How big are the classes? Thanks.
