For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Depends on the sub. My son was told the tridents only surface 7x a year. He's requesting to be on a fast attack as they are smaller, so have to surface more frequently. Not sure how often they surface. But I've seen pictures on FB with them all crowding around to get some fresh air and sunshine. it can't be easy for any of them, but I think they adapt after a while.

I was surprised when my daughter told me how little time the CS's have in fresh air and sun! I would have thought a ship as big as an aircraft carrier would have enough CS's to afford a little top side per day! Can't BEGIN to imagine what a CS on a sub gets to look forward to. My daughter is on a destroyer, has approximately 400 sailors, and about 10 are CS's. Busy busy busy!!

Mama_Cevans , Since my son joined the aircraft carrier in Sept., he's only been topside 2 or 3 times other than liberty ports. I guess that is common for the CS. The deployment is only 1/2 over.... we are getting tired of this!

I like that pic therevbev! My son had post it on his fb wall. Now he is complaining he hasn't sunlight in 2 days. He got inspections coming and will be aweigh next month. The real work is coming!!

Hi Olga,
My son had taken 2 years of culinary school here in a vocational program thru school & he said the training was NOT what he expected at all! He did seem happy with it & he's off to submarine school now as he chose to be a CSS (2nd s for sub). He still seems happy with his decision.

No problem with anybody's comments. That is why I'm here. For back and forth comments. Thank you for explaining this piece to me. It's wonderful to know about your son. Is he happy with the training? Is it what he expected? Anything you want to tell me, I'll be happy to hear. I'm going to rest now. I'm in Michigan and it is 10:49 pm. I have a workday ahead, but we'll continue this now that I've joined. I'll keep on tomorrow and the day after and so on... Good night DivontesMom!

We went to the ceremony at Fort Lee, it was very nice and they showed a video of some of the activities they participated in. Then we waited a bit while my daughter packed up all her stuff and we drove her to Norfolk, she had to report to the ship, then had a couple hours to spend with us before she had to be back on the ship. It was a long drive from Michigan for a couple hours, but very worth it to us!
