Thanks, cantom. And I guess I'll eventually stop typing CIT instead of CTI. Geesh. I'm blaming it on the head cold I have. ;)

Hi Lisa (A-Mack's mom 12/353). My SR PIR 09/23 took a second test at BC, even though she had scored high on the DLAB, bit she didn't say what type of test--probably couldn't. In any case, she was able to change her language of choice. She's awaiting the start of classes at DLI. Let us know when you receive the "Mom, I'm a sailor" call.

Hey gals! 10/21 PIR is so close that I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. Did any of your SRs ever mention having to take another test while in boot camp to decide what language they'll have. Mine did in his last letter. But then wrote the next day and said he didn't take the test after all. I know it wasn't a situation where he was right on the edge of qualifying for CIT, as he scored a 135 on the DLAB. I had never heard anyone mention a second test while in BC before, so I'm a little perplexed. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Once I get this boy through PIR, I'll be chatting with you guys a lot more often. I can only concentrate on one of his goals at a time. :)

My SR (Ship 09/Div316, PIR23SEP11) arrived DLI 24SEP. She was at the airport from about 2:00AM until noon. We got to spend a nice chunk of time with her! BTW, her classes start mid-Nov. Her roommate arrived this week from PIR. They are getting along great, I hear. If this sounds like your SR, please "friend" me so we can keep in touch.

Karen60, my "other daughter" arrived last Saturday, she had the 10 am flight out of Chicago.  If I remember right, her classes begin mid-November.  She really likes it so far and has "warned everyone" that her best friend is arriving this Saturday!  There are at least 3 or 4 out of this weekends' group that are going to Monterey.  My daughter's classes begin Nov 3.

What time did your son's flight leave Chicago?  I'm curious because I'm wondering how much time I might have with my daughter at the airport!  I'm a greedy mom, want as much time as I can manage.  :)

Darlene8993-My sailor son just graduated 9/30 and also arrived in Monterey this past Saturday night. He thought he was the only one from his PIR group going to Monterey.  He said his classes start Oct 20.

My SR will arrive in Monterey next Saturday too! Her best friend just graduated this past Friday and arrived on Saturday. I wonder if I should be worried, the two of them together in Monterey! haha They will have a great time, I'm so excited as they begin this new chapter in life.

Robert Plant...free...wow.  Any Hugh is no slacker either.  I'm jealous.

On the subject of music, any recomendations on where my son should go to get a decent 6 string acoustic guitar (prefereably used)?  He had to leave his "baby" at home and is drying to start playing again.  He just passed Phase 1 so his first leave is this weekend and the only thing on the agenda is to get a guitar and play, play , play!

Tammy, congrats to you and your new SN.  What an experience eh?

So, my son drove to San Fran w/ some classmates to see a HUGE free concert yesterday. Robert Plant was there, Ricky Scaggs, EmmyLou Harris, Hugh Laurie (from House, M.D. - still don't know what he does)..... anyway, they were going to stay for day 2 of the concert but the girl driving had to return to base this morning:( Sounds like a great concert event. (I wonder when he is going to study???).

My son will be departing from Great Lakes to Monterrey on Saturday after PIR on Friday. He has been told his classes start Nov 15 and expected grad date of about Apr 2013. He cannot wait to get there.
