You have to wonder if it has anything to do with the fiscal cliff--half of the budget cuts would come from the defense budget if those in power can't come to an agreement. Why else would so many be released at the same time?

With regard to separation, does anyone know what ADMIN PW means? My son just called and said that he and about 100+ others are being sent home. He has to meet with legal to find out whats going on but, he IS able to reenlist.

What the hell??

DocRenee,  My son is married with little ones & lives off base in military housing in Seaside, but it didn't come easily.  Have your son start looking into it ASAP. It starts with a waiting list, some housing is better than others & he can enlist the help of a housing liason who can go check out a place ahead of time & 'report' back.  Tell your son not to "settle".  If he & his wife don't like what they're told/see push harder. Amazing what some 'pushback' can do.

@NYRican  Boy you ARE close! Almost in our backyard... Your son is doing awesome!! Congrats to you and your hubby as well your son for all he has "won" (got it right! HaHa) That is incredible! Maybe sometime soon, you, your husband and my wife (the better half) and I can go to dinner sometime and talk Navy talk after getting to know one another. Oh and NYRican, Thanks to you and your husband for your service to our great country. We couldn't be great without you and our fine servicemen and women (past and present) in all branches protecting us.

@momkaw  Point well taken about the snowstorms. In Jan mother nature I'm sure will be in full swing with her wrath. Thanks!

NYRican924: I agree with you. I have taken my son to Monterey many years ago where we visited the wonderful aquarium and cannery row. Love the area. I am inspired by your example to invite others to a yummy spread of holiday food and cheer. Thanks so much! Doc Renee

Hi DocRenee; my mom lives with me and she is 67 yrs old. I imagine your mom may not be able to travel, but your sailor will be over in Monterey for a while and you live so close, just a short hop on a plane, that I hope next year some time you are able to travel and meet his friends and maybe even his teachers etc... Monterey reminds me a lot of Key West, Fl, which is where my sailor was born, since I was station there for a while. It's pretty small and has the tourist strip by lighthouse drive etc... It's so small a weekend is plenty of time to see the place and visit attractions with your sailor :-)

Another question (Craig encouraged me to ask Dee (or anyone else who knows) on this site: What about married housing in Monterey? My son is married and will want to bring his wife as soon as he secures housing. I am assuming on base married housing is scarce but don't know. I also live in Calif. so I know how expensive housing is off base. How plentiful is off base married housing which is easily accessible to base? I'd appreciate any comments. Doc Renee

@jangles and momkaw--all three of our sons will be going to Monterey after graduation. This is exciting. My son said he met about 5 others going to Monterey as they intentionally take them during a few times of the year. Hope to meet up sometime! Doc Renee

I will not be at either the 12-21 grad nor Monterey on 12-30. I am staying home with my 93 yr old mom and we have booked a flight for my son to fly from LA area where we live to Monterey. I do want to meet some CTI parents sometime. I love that NYRican went to Monterey and made a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for her son and many others there so we may even plan a time in the future. Please post anything you know. Doc Renee

@Txnavydad:  Don't forget about the weather when planning your flights in regards to nonstop.  You don't want to get caught in Denver due to a snow storm.
