@browneyedmomma- your daughter is super lucky to get that quick of a turn around! Usually its a month or so of hold. I had a pretty quick one (3 days of indoc and then class) so it was nice because I didnt have to clean but make sure she knows to find things to keep her stress to a minimum! Its hard especially if you dont have those extra few weeks of down time between boot and class.

@brismom- I recently got to Gordon. She'll get here do her indoc and then go to a div where she cranks (cleans and does yard work basically) until a spot in the apprentice training opens up! She can request to move off base 6 months after she gets here if she has no room failures and jumps through a few hoops. I just went back a week or so ago for a graduation of some friends because their parents couldn't come (same reasons) and they were ok with the reasons. She can also use that time to say goodbye and celebrate to other friends that arent coming out here! :) hope that enlightens you a little about

@BrownEyedMomma- She will be going for crypto training. After that I have no clue what is expected! She doesn't either, lol. She has a couple weeks left and it appears to be very chaotic and stressful. We had thought all along to be there for graduation, but have decided that the cost and the fact that she'll be coming home the following day , won't allow us to. I haven't told her yet that we won't be there and it's breaking my heart. I hope she'll understand. We will have her for about 3 weeks, so we'll make it up to her!  At what stage are you and your sailor at? I try and be up to speed on what comes next, and so far I don't know much about Ft Gordon.

Thank you NYRican924 for the info! I found out that she will have a month leave between DLI and Ft Gordon! We are very happy about that! And she did say that the barracks will be "home" until she ranks up. It's been almost 2 years since she left and the roller coaster doesn't stop! LOL  I am glad she will be a days drive from us and not on the other side of the country.

Hi Brismom, congratulations on your sailor soon graduating. So regarding your question about leave, they are entitled to take any accumulated leave and I believe are given an additional like 7 days of travel time if they are driving. My son took almost a month of leave but with the travel time granted he was charged less then 3 weeks. Now for the housing question, I imagine your sailor is married, since if they are bachelors, they are required to live in the barracks. His sponsor should be able to help him out in finding off base housing. It's best to know what are the good areas and not so good or convenient areas. Hope this info helped and if you have any specific questions just inbox me. My sailor has been at Gordon for 2 years now.Hope your sailor enjoys his tour. My sailor son loved it since it wasn't much of a difference from San Antonio when we first arrived here. Others find it to rural etc...

Good morning! My Sailor is due to graduate in June from DLI. How long do they have before reporting to their next duty station? And for anyone that knows of decent off base housing in Ft. Gordon I would love to hear your suggestions and tips! We also hope to visit Augusta in July and welcome any recommendations. Thank you in advance!

Thanks Lisa (A-Mac's mom), your advice is good to hear, and I know my daughter is doing what is right for her too.Brown-eyedMomma, you took the words outta my mouth, I miss her terribly but I always said my job as mom is to teach you how to be an independent adult and now she's on her own, at DLI until next March. it was very stressful in the beginning but she's doing better, like someone said, there's great support there and she's found a lifelong friend.

Lisa (a-macs mom) that was awesome advice. I worry about her and miss her daily but i know this was the best place for her to be and it was her choice. I know she will grow up so much through this experience and cant wait to see the confidence she gains as she embraces the best of what she has to offer and brings out the best in what i expect will be her second family. Its hard to imagine her being away for so long but i know i have to get used to it because it could be even longer when deployed. Thank you again for some of the wisest words ive read here.
