Craig, what is the difference between someone signing up for 4 yr or 6 for CTT?  Some people said their kid only signed up for 4 yr?

Have him buy a laptop.  He will use it all the time.  Try to get one that has a built in camera so you can skype him.

I know alot of people will disagree with this, but I think the NEX is way over priced on computers.  If he's not a gamer, he can buy a cheap Acer or Dell at Best Buy for $310.  Even though the NEX is tax free, that saving is nothing compared to the bargins Best Buys has.  But that is just my thoughts...

Thanks for the info guys!!!! He doesn't have a laptop right now.  Do they have computers for the sailors to use for homework?  Or is it a good idea for him to purchase that also?

himmie - If you look above in the thing that says "Corry Station Base photo", look at frame 2:33.  It will show how the rooms are laid out.  There are now 3 sailors to a room, 1 room has 1 bathroom.  The entire suite have 4 rooms A, B, C, D.  So 4 bathrooms.  There are 4 suites to a floor.  3 floors to a barracks...

camanae - You lost me on that.  Wierd comment?  What wierd comment?

Suzy - Understand there are a bunch of different ways to E2 or E3.  Most of the time it's because the depper has a AA/AS or BA/BS degree.  You can also have JROTC, Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and some others.   There is even a way to make E6 six month out of boot camp.  That rarely happens, but I did just worked with a depper that got E5.

I hope your deppers is research Navy deppers websites so he is fully prepared on what is about to happen with him.  If he knows what will happen, it will make his time at boot camp enjoyable....

clockard - It not that they kill each others, it's killing the guys.  You know, if their would be any guys on that crew they would be sweating all the time, worrying about the dang females trying to open the hatch at -1000 feet to ask for directions...

Janet - I'm not positive on this, but I thought the 2nd class swimming is just one step past the 3nd class swimming.  I beleive they make everyone do the 3nd class swim, and those that wish to continue to get 2nd class swim qualified just continue to the other end of the pool.  I don't think it's a seperate test... but I don't know for sure.

If I were in bootcamp, I would let the RDC know that you want to be 2nd class swim qualified so you can qualify for NAC for the specific rating.

You can see the instruction at:  http://www.npc.navy.mil/ReferenceLibrary/MILPERSMAN/1000MilitaryPer...

notice para 7, it says you must be in the fleet for a CT to qualify.

I think my son shared a room with one person and then two or four rooms shared one bathroom. They really supply everything as far as linens and things for the room. I can't think of anything he really needed. All your son will being doing in CTN school is study, study and then after that study some more LOL!
Comment by himmiemom on February 8, 2011 at 7:12pm
Well my son passed BS last night!!!!!  He will be leaving 2/15 very early in the morning for OHare Airport and than onto Pensacola for CTN.  How many share a room at Pensacola?  What kind of things do they need for their room?
Comment by camenae on February 8, 2011 at 1:35pm
Craig, both of us thought that was a weird comment. We're hoping not to go to Hawaii right out of the gate since it's so expensive.

Suzy, my husband went in as E3 for CTR. He's graduating this Friday.
