Clockard- I'll get the PIR info by email? Will the Recruits get email time at some point?  :)

I heard that will allow women on subs- showing my ignorance here- but I think they will start with subs that have smaller 'quarters' ie. a section that hold only 7-9 all women, rather than a sub that's quarters old 20-30 at a time.  Am I getting this right??

Dorri - The two biggies in Maryland are Fort Meade & Suitland....

Pat - Here is the words directly from the Navy "

Following completion of basic CTR technical training, graduates may expect assignment to sea duty in the United States or worldwide overseas to such locations as Hawaii, Bahrain, Spain, England, Japan or Australia.  Sixty percent of "A" school graduates get immediate follow-on specialized "C" school training; the remainder go directly to their initial operational assignment. "

Why the Navy hasn't let her get a NEC is beyond me.  I know there is a shortage of CTR 9105's and 9138's....  In fact, they sent out this message...  I beleive women are eligible...  (Sorry everyone for the long post)

Craig, where is the duty station in Maryland?  Since we live in Northern VA, MD is our close neighbor.  It'd be cool if son went there -- or Hawaii... I assume we can visit?
Comment by Pat on February 8, 2011 at 4:28am
Just curious. My daughter is a CTR1 and has been in six years and still not gone to C school. Her first duty station was Misawa, Japan and now she is on USS Kearsarge currently out where she is the LPO. She knows her next station will be Everett, WA when she gets back so still no C school looming.
Comment by Craig on February 8, 2011 at 2:01am

Man the CT section is hopping tonight...Woo-hoo!

cinder - Go to this link, and you'll find out what a CAC card reader is.  It is a very powerful tool that I think all sailors should have.    http://www.navyfamilies.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=17616

7ish - There is no "C" school.  Just "A" and "C".  It's funny, on some of the Navy rating sheets they show a class "D" school on some.  That is a typo....

Janet - Man, those CTI's use to take a United flight and since the hub is Denver my wife and I went to the airport twice to meet 2 CTI we had on my website and bought them lunch.  I guess they don't use United anymore, or they use a different hub.

I truly think if 7ish daughter gets 2nd class swimmer, she could go right after CTI school. They need young professional on those aircraft.

Upon graduation from CTI “A” school, CTI’s are stationed at one of four duty stations in Maryland, Georgia, Texas, and Hawaii.  The majority of all CTI billets are located at these duty stations, and virtually all billets for each language are located at a single duty station.  Therefore, CTI’s can expect to spend a significant portion of their careers in one location.  This concentration of billets makes spouse co-location with non CT Sailors and other service branch members extremely difficult.

Sea duty for CTI’s includes duty as Navy Aircrewmen, and temporary assignments on board ships and submarines.  All applicants for CTI are required to volunteer for duty involving aerial flight, and all male applicants are required to volunteer for duty on board submarines.  (This volunteer statement must be made with the expectancy that they will qualify for both Aircrew and Submarine duty.  This requirement is stated in MILPERSMAN 1306-618, CTI SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Males may be assigned to duty in submarines or duty involving aerial flight.  Females may be assigned duty involving flight.)  There are also some opportunities for assignment overseas.

Pat - Some sailors don't go to "C" school immediately.  Those that don't will go after their 1st duty station.  The Navy needs professionals that have a NEC.  Not having one doesn't help the Navy, it hurts them.  Most commands that have a non-"C" school graduate will send them to a "C" school on the commands dime.  That way they do get a trained person in a skill that is needed at that command.  I

I posted the NEC manual about 2 days ago, go search on CTR's.  They are in the 9100 series.  Just a word of advice from a guy that's been their, the most screwed up CTR "C" there is is 9169 Manaul Morse Code Intercept Operator, every person I know that has done that job has bad hearing now.  It totally wacks out your hearing.  Tell your sailor to NOT BE A DITTY CHASER....

Comment by Pat on February 7, 2011 at 11:59pm
Craig, If your sailor does not go to C school right away after A school how long usually before they get assigned a C school? Or do some not got?
Comment by 7isheaven on February 7, 2011 at 10:03pm
I don't think she's gotten to swimming yet. Just had her teeth pulled this past week- whatever week that is. . . lol
