Judyann- Wow - your son did really well.  I will tell mine to study hard but he prefers hands on to classroom time - so we shall see.  I am so excited to see him next weekend.  He does not have a laptop yet but we are going to take him to buy one in Chicago.  Do you remember how easy it was for them to get a wifi connection in A school?  Thanks again for all your information.

Judyann-wow what an adventure you had! We have PIR in one week. I am so excited to see him. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

When Katie was at A school her younger brother was in the area on choir tour.  We were able to pick her up over night.  We met them at the Gurnee Mall for a few hours and then head North for their concert.  Katie met me at the get and we walked to her 'ship' to sign her out and then I accompanied her back to the ship in the AM.

DODiva--I actually live in Slapout, Al, although I understand there is one in OK.  LOL If you are in Alabama, please join Ala. Navy moms.  Great group!  You will have time with your Sailor on Friday after he reports to A school, Saturday, and Sunday.  Their curfew to be back on base varies.  I think mine had until 6 or 7 p.m.  We were not allowed on base, only to the reception area at the gate.  May Sailor got liberty most every weekend.  If you like you can send a personal message to my N4M profile page!  I had a lot of  questions about this time myself.

We love our DC's! First, congrats on your SR's PIR. It will be an amazing time for him n you both! Their A School is in GL so he will probably be Grad n Go, meaning he has to report to the school on PIR day. But you will have plenty of time with him. A School I think was 8 weeks or so. They do the basic engineering strand plus their special area. My DC is a firefighter out of Mayport NS, FL. DC's keep the Navy floating,

Wow - what an experience!  Maybe my husband and I will get to do a Tiger Cruise one day.  I might be to much of a princess to handle it though!! LOL Thanks for sharing.

The Tiger Cruise I took in 2010 on my daughter's USS Essex (LHD 2) went from homeport (Sasebo) to Yokosuka for a 4 day 3 night cruise.

Hi slapout52-Thanks for response.  I guess I need to be careful-I was just abbreviating Damage Control Man (DCM).  I really am not sure of the exact "rating".  I am a new Navy Mom - he left on Feb 8th.  We have our plane tickets and hotel reservations all ready to go and are very excited to see him.  Plus, we have never been to Chicago so it should be fun. Thanks again!
