Katie and I keep in touch via emails and IMing when she is in port. We get a call every so often. I write her letters and send packages. Her DC division loves homemade cookies. This past summer I went on a Tiger Cruise on her ship with her youngest brother. We were on the ship 4 days and 3 nights. It was a WONDERFUL experience.

I am sorry to be such a pest, I just want to find out all I can, so I can be knowledgeable about what she has to go thru.

MarianneKT--Wow!! How do you like being so far away from her??? I am going crazy now and she has only been gone since July, but she has never been away from me for even 1 day. Btw, I tried to find that BECC on youtube, and I must not of been looking in the right spot, can you help me??

The DCs are part of the Engineering Division, thus the BECC, just the initial classes. Until they are official moved over from the BC side, they cannot have the cell phone. Katie didn't get hers until she came home at Christmas. Katie got along fine with her new roommates. They rotated in and out depending on when they started their training.

Katie graduated DC school and has been in Sasebo Japan since April '09.

Also, she has already been told her A-School will be 10-12 weeks and will get out right before Christmas. My sailor is extremely shy and has not made any friends and was bad mouthed the whole time she was in BC. Do you know (since I am sure your sailor is out of A-school now) are the sailors there friendly??

MarianneKT--Why are they told they cannot get a cell phone until they get to their A-School?? Her PIR is Thursday and she was going to go get a cell phone, but was told that it would be taken away for 2 weeks, WHY?????
Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on August 31, 2010 at 9:48pm
EQ - They can also have cell phones and a computer. Katie got a laptop over Christmas and downloaded her CDs and took DVDs with her. She got a phone, not just to call home, but to keep in touch with her friends. One of her best friends had opposite class times and such.

After BC graduation (PIR) they get transferred to Great Lakes for training school - across the street. Katie was on hold because she arrived just before Christmas and they didn't have enough room for her. Her school began in January after Christmas leave.First you have Basic Engineering Common Core Classes before the actual DC training. If you don't pass a class/test, you have to repeat them. So it roughly takes 10-12 weeks.
