Thanks!  I will be happy with whatever he gets, but at least if he doesn't get this year he will in the future.  This is all very exciting!

Kimberyly68, your son's experience sounds similar to my daughter's. She reported to her ship in August of '15 but her ship was 1/2 way thru its mid-life overhaul and was docked until May of 2016 when they finally began training underway. She deployed in July and will be gone at least 8 months.

Librarianmom - my daughter got to come home each year during the holidays before deployment. Just remember that everything depends on where your son's ship is when he's assigned to it.  I've known a sailor who's ship was dry docked for 4 years and another who was flown out to her ship that was already deployed.

Thanks!  That's great news!  I am secretly hoping for Christmas...but will be prepared for not.  I was thinking maybe since he will finish A school at the beginning/middle of December.  I will take what I can get for sure!

Kimberly...did he get to come home in that first two years?

Hi all...how soon after A school did your sailor leave on deployment?  How long were they gone?  Can I expect a year or more before he will come home?

Thanks!

Librarianmom I'm not sure how it works but that would be pretty cool!

SailorKMom (and Oleander)...thanks for the welcome!

I am excited to see my son again soon!  This time healthy and whole!  I did get to see him at the beginning of August.  But he was in the hospital.  We are so thankful he made a full recovery and is back on track ready to graduate!

TiffyTat...I wonder if they will be in same class?  It doesn't sound like they start a new DC class every week?

Oleander, glad to hear that she loved it! It is a great area. My son should be there as soon as he graduated A school in about 10 days. Nice to hear from other parents who have kids that are DCs. Hope everyone is doing good!
Librarianmom & Tffytat- graduation is so exciting. Definately one of the proudest moments in your life as a parent!! I get excited again just thinking about that day seeing all the Sailors marching in! And then seeing your own Sailor after those long 8 weeks.

SailorKMom- my daughter is stationed out of San Diego, now deployed, but loved it! We're in NV so were able to travel there to see her a lot. Great town! I hope your son enjoys it & you get to visit often!

Welcome librarianmom and Tffytat! Very exciting days ahead for you!
