Hello! My son is currently in BC and will be completing A school in GL to be DC. This is new for us all but we're super proud of him and can't wait to see him again.

I got my first letter!!! So excited!!! I was expecting it to have a little more emotion to it. He said it is pushing him to his limit but he's getting stronger everyday and gave details about his days there, but it was definately disconnected. Thats not his personality, so it was a little sad to me as equal as so happy to hear from him. Maybe its just his way of getting thru BC!

My son is in BC right now PIC is June 2nd and will stay in Great Lakes for A school. He is going to be DC. I have been reading about what DCs do. Hope it ends up being a good fit for him! Not a lot of others are posting about their recruits being a DC. Is this one of the more dangerous jobs in the Navy?

Hi, I'm new to this. My boyfriend of 5 years is 2 weeks away from boot camp graduation then will be staying in GL for a school. His job is a DC so i have some questions. How long is A school? Where are DC's usually based? Like is there a common place they could go or is it whoever needs then at whatever time? Also, if my boyfriend is aboard a ship, what is contact like? Can he call daily, or emails, or is there no contact until they dock somewhere? Thank you for your help!

Oleander, Thanks for the reply. Actually read it a few times at work(3rd shift), one of my co workers is a Navy veteran. He made a comment last nite and I bawled like a baby!! I agree with you on the roller coaster ride of emotions, it's start to pick up speed for me. I was fine when he was at A school at GL, I only live an hour and a half away, so I got to visit and he came home twice. And almost every nite around 930 he would call. It was always in the back of my mind that he was leaving. It's been really difficult to let go, he's my baby! But I also had him after the death of his older brother who was under a year. My son and I have always been close.
When he told me about enlisting. I pushed for Army. My dad was Army. But when he said Navy, I told him Grandpa's up there shaking his head!! But I encouraged him, could see how excited he was! My brother in law is Navy and is at Tinker.
My son is like your daughter. He's so independent, responsible and is still so excited about how his life is going. And his confidence is thru the roof!!
He is going on a destroyer, he meets up with it in San Diego and right away out to sea for some months. He has a terrific sponsor who is mentoring him. I know I'm planning on a trip to Pearl Harbor in a year as long as there isn't any conflicts with his schedule.
I'm gonna stop rambling for now, just got home and three dogs are staring at me for food!!

My son got his orders for Hawaii and is leaving in a week. He's being deployed right away. So excited for him but I also have so many questions and concerns. I've been doing good so far but I'm starting to lose it. I have no idea when I'll see him again!

My DC was on hold for 3 months after bc.  He kept busy on base by volunteering at the USO and also volunteering to help out the CO in his barracks.  Your Sailor needs to keep busy so he doesn't get board.
