While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son is suppose to start bootcamp on 12-28 however he was told he will be leaving for BC earlier due to the holiday. I am very excited for him. I just went through the BC experience with my daughter in law. She is at A school in Florida right now. I am so thankful I have this website to talk with others about this experience. I didn't know about Navy for Moms until just before her PIR. It was in July so I have just gone through it. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have as to what our experience was.
Waiting is the hardest part of BC. No news is good news and when it is all over it will have been well worth all the worry. SO try Not to worry. Just smile and know your son or daughter is in good hands.

The official order to shut down MEPS for Holiday Standdown has been issued. I posted a link to the orders in the December group. Recruiters should have new dates for their late-December recruits any day now. Many have already been reassigned.

My son tells me that he may be able to call home on Christmas???? Does anyone know if they allow them 2 calls...one when they arrive and one for Christmas? If so, will it be a time that they know ahead of time? I would love to have the whole family around the phone for the call if possible.

None of the December-ship recruits will be able to call home on Christmas. Period. Last year there were a lot of parents who were told it was a maybe, but none actually got calls. It doesn't help that the other services DO allow holiday calls.
Recruits don't get their first call until the end of their 4th or 5th week at boot camp (end of the 3rd week of formal training). That will be the recruits who reported in the last week of November. That is the first call they are allowed (after the "I'm here" call), with no consideration for holidays. It's a very strict rule. However, RDCs use phone calls as a tool, they promise a call, then don't follow through. Actually, the original "promise" was "if you do X by X date, you can have a call." It's always an impossible task. Recruits hear that as a promise, then are disappointed. Sometimes RDCs even tell them that they have earned the call, then find an excuse to take it away.

My son was supposed to go on the 20th. It is now officially the 8th of December. He is leaving from Fargo ND and he is going to be IS when he graduates.

adams.mom - Besides this group, I also run the Cryptology group. You will soon start having a lot of investigators in your neighborhood asking about your son. They will visit his school, they will talk to your neighbors. So you may want to inform the neighbors why they will be talked to. In today's era, you don't want them to think your son messed up. I wouldn't worry about the school. Depending on the school size, they are use to these guys coming.
Since the IS and the CT's have the same requirement to obtain an SSBI access, you may want to read this thread.
