Hi Claudia nice to meet you. Does your son like it over there. My son had to tell me i have to bring his dads suv cause he has two sea bags and something else. So Im glad you enlightened me on the info so he can call. Id hate for him to get over there and can't keep it. Does anyone know if i have to set something up with the phone company he is on our plan right now and i don't want to be charged alot for calls. I thought he'd be stationed for a bit before going back out i guess i really need to check everything out. I hope your son is doing good.

LI mom, my son is on the O'Kane.  He has been there about 6 months.  Your son is getting there at a good time.  The ship has been going through a mini overhaul and they will be ready for deployment soon.  He should have a phone number for his point of contact on the ship.  Make sure he calls and knows exactly what to bring with him.  Put TSA locks on all checked baggage.   Everything is very expensive in Hawaii & things in luggage tend to get 'lost'.  The best source for up-to-date info is the USS O'Kane facebook page.

sherlylt -- sounds oh so familiar. We're anxiously awaiting next contact. My "manchild" is on the USS Barry (yesterday was 1 year).

Hello all, My son is on the USS Chaffe just left today for his first duty in Hawaii. Kinda of a bitter sweet day. Enjoyed having him home but glad he is on his next journey of self discovery and responsibility. We missed the first flight and luckly got the next flight out on stand by. Sat in the USO at SFO for 4 long hours but that was great because we had the manchild cornered from all others. Family time, Ahhhh we take whatever we can get.

Hi everyone, my son Patrick wrote a poem for us to read at Thanksgiving, here it is

"Thankful Day of Thanksgiving

During this day of thanks giving, this day to feast
Nothing really matters, except for my family so far to the east.
The pies, cranberry sauces, and even the meanest ole turkey, Tom
only matter because they're cooked by moms.

Today,tomorrow,yesterday and beyond
My thanks and love is to my family that I'm so fond
Truly you guys make the sun shine brighter
you make my heart lighter.

And while my place at the table is an empty chair
I'm still there, because you all are here with me, in the air.
And in this Thanksgiving view
I'm truly most Thankful for all of you.

I'm thankful for all the mid-days
For all the times you watched me play
For coming to all my shows
and for supporting me in the front row.

So thankful for the chance to succeeded in college class
So thankful that you all are apart of my stained glass.
Thankful that you can set me free, yet still hold me so close and tight
In the end I guess I'm just so thankful for my chance to flight.

While this turkey day may seem less
don't fret, because no matter the distance I'm blessed
So eat, drink and be thankful and merry
but save me a tast of the two cranberries.

Hi All, I just recently got an e-mail from my son after I again requested he answer about the Rack Pack. He told me to hold of for now because of too many thefts on board his ship. The rack pack sounds like a great thing but it is not secure so please remind your sailors to be cautious of what they do store in it.
On board cash: my son has a Navy ATM Cash card (I think it's like an atm card) from the Navy CU. He has set up an allotment to it through the CU acct. I will get details asap. But your son should be able to get the info from his Chief. I will post what info he send me .

Welcome to all the new Moms!

Hi, I did leave a message for Joy about this site and the possibility of taking it over. I hope that is possible.

I e-mailed my son to get the measurements of his rack and see if he would like one for Christmas. I'll ask if he knows of any one on his ship that has one and how well they like it. I'll post the answer as soon as I get it.

Have a Great Day everyone.
