Hi Mom's

My son is scheduled  for PIR on 2/4/11 an assigned to ship 11 div 061. I could not find any groups for moms who's sons are assigned to ship 11 div 61. Sooo I am hoping we could get together here and compare notes from our sons.  I dont know much about this division, I have read from other moms that certain divisions mean certain things.  Well I hope to hear from you guys :)

Hi, i'll be the first one to reply. My name is Jan and my son is also in ship 11 div. 061. I think i may have left a comment for you when you first joined. I got a form letter from my son on Mon. and was smiling for two days! Thats starting to wear off though:) I'm ready for something more solid, like a phone call. lol I havw written my son about the other boys' moms that are in the same division. It would be nice if they have gotten to be friends.

Im not sure what all div. mean either. Just a few. My son is going in for submarine. Yours?

Like to hear more. ttyl

My son's rank is Master of Arms.  I to was excited to recieve his letter. The first day he left I bought a journal and just jot down little things that I would have talked to him about at the moment.  Its away for me to keep connected to him. I even jotted down that if he were home he would get yelled at for throwing all his clothes on the closet floor.   LOl...I bet his clothes are nice and neat now ...now that is truly a mothers revenge to a mess room.   Even though I kid I am missing him terribely I have stopped crying but I have such an ache in the pit of my stomache.   I cant wait to hear from him. I think at least a letter letting me know he is ok is all I need to know.   What brave men are boys are....I am worried about him chosing the Master of Arms rank. I hope it was the right decision.  He had many other options but that is what he wanted

Hi!  My name is Kim and my son is in ship11 div 061 too.  I've chatted a few times with Jan too.  If we aren't friends, invite Jan and I to be your friend so things are more private.  I also got my form letter on Monday.  I was expecting more!  Just two short lines that said with wish everyone a Merry Christmas, he misses everyone and he will write when he can.  Too funny.  I didn't even get an I Love You or a Love at the end.  :(  I was feeling a little sorry for myself then I realized, maybe he didn't want to get too mushy if other people were around him.  LOL.  I, like Jan, can't wait for that first phone call.  I made my hotel reservations today for graduation.  Did either of you?  My son is going in to be a hull maintenance technician (aka welder specializing in underwater welding).

Can't wait to hear from you guys again (and more moms from S11Div061!

Hey Kellymcd11, My name is AngieBship11div061 and our sons are together also....invite me as a friend and lets chat.....

I keep thinking how hard this is and its only been 2 1/2 weeks. I have no idea how i will cope when he leaves for 6 months on his first deployment at sea. Thank God he has almost a year of schooling/training first.  I am also worried about the job he chose, just because of the isolation on a sub. I keep telling myself that he is an adult now and can make his own decisions, but you all know as moms, that we never view our children as adults:) I just want him to be happy.

Hi Kelly,  My name is Kim.  My son Doug is in Ship 11 Division 060. I would like to think that our kids in ship 11 are the best!  Hopefully we can all get to know each other on here and meet at PIR.  My son has chosen Intelligence Specialist and will go to VA right after graduation for school to learn how to do that job.  His status so far...his father and I are divorced so the box went to his dads house, then the form "letter"...but then I got the best part...2 days ago he called me!!!  He was filling out some forms and needed to call me for the info.  The phone call only lasted about 4 minutes but WOW.  I asked if he got mail yet and he said that they did not have a "mail person" assigned yet but were expected to get one this week.  I am looking forward to him writing me but I know it will be a while.  Gotta get to work.  Kim

Kim,

I just joined or actually was able to get on after joining a few weeks ago. You are the first person I have found that has a sailor in the same ship & division as my daughter, she is also in ship 11 div 060. Please include me if you find a group just for this division. I'm still trying to figure this all out.

Thanks,

Coline

Hi my name is Lori, my son is also scheduled for PIR on 2/4/11 and assigned to ship 11 div 061, it seem like its been much longer that 2 weeks since he left. Does anyone know of hotels in the great lakes area that we could stay in for the graduation? It's nice to finally have a graduation date so the count down can begin, it will be nice to see our son for a few hours or however long we will be allowed, he will then leave for Charleston, s. carolina

Hi Lori, Im hoping that we get to see them for more than an hour or so. I fear my son may be a grad-n-go, so that means no real time with him. But i have heard that if they are, that we are able to go to the airport and spend time there with him/her. Hopefully, the flight will be delayed!!  lol.

As for a hotel, i just booked my rooms last night. I dont know how many people are going to be there, im figuring a lot, so i panicked and told my husband im booking now before it gets booked up.

We are staying at the Courtyard by Marriot. Its 5 miles away from camp and they have shuttle service. I looked it up on line and it looked pretty decent. I held a room for three nights, not knowing how long we will be there. They said i can always cancel if my son is grad/go and dont need the extra night.:)

Hi Lori.  I've read on here that my son will be Grad and Go since his A school is right in Great Lakes. Not sure if that is true or not.  I've also heard that he will leave right after graduation and pack his stuff and move it to his new place on the other side of the base.

I booked our room at the Ramada Inn.  I also booked it for three days hoping that we get to see him that long too.  I've heard on here that this is a smaller group so it shouldn't be quite as busy as a summer PIR would be.

Have you guys received any letters besides  your "form letter" with their PIR dates?  I have not and I'm going crazy.  Everyday I run to the mailbox and there is NOTHING!  I'm going nuts with the unknowns.

They will only be allowed to write to us on Sundays (im pretty sure), so im hoping that this coming Sun. will be there first time they get to sit down and write mail. Hopefully their letters get to us in a day or two, being the PO is so busy this time of year.

I may be the only one, but it doesnt even seem like Christmas. Too many other things on my mind. Kinda cant wait till its over.

I feel the exact same way, Jan.  I only got the Christmas tree up this year.  That's it.  No other decorations around my house, just the tree.  I also can't wait for it to be over.  I just can't wrap my head around all the stuff I have to do before next weekend and I just don't even want to.  It's just not the same without our recruits home.
