velvetlace so glad your son is coming home on leave.  My son also will be come home in Sep after his C school before going to San Diego.  I know how you feel it is always good times when they are home.  Let us know how clean he keeps things.  I'm beting it's better than be for but, not totally clean.

My only son will graduate from corpsman school next week,  and he will be coming home.   His room has been empty since March.  His room and bathroom are so clean.  It will be interesting to see how clean he keeps it now.   Any bets?????   Anyway, I am just so glad that he is coming home before going to his next duty station in a naval hospital.

Daysleeper, I think you must be married to my guy...he too is an electronics guy and can work wonders if my computer crashes, but doesn't have much of a clue on the yard work (actually, I think he can he just refuses to).

I am new to this group, and new to the empty nester thing also.  I did my life in reverse and had my children when I was young, so I am still very young myself and they are all gone.  My youngest is my SR.  She is due to PIR on 08/26/11 and we couldn't be happier for her, though making the adjustment to the empty nest is driving me crazy and my guy too because I keep saying I want to adopt and he says .... "ummmm have you lost your mind?"

timsmom-    I lived in Fresno for 3 years and Visalia for 31 years, so I can understand what you mean by hot.   It is like an oven there at this time of year.     I think you have had more than your fair share of triple digits this year.

Daysleeper, your son's name must be Rich.  I can tell you miss him a lot.  How long has he been gone?  I think it is great that you taught him how to cook!  That is so true about nowadays girls not learning about sewing or cooking.  Makayla has learned a little bit of cooking; however, I really need to work more with her on it.  Sewing on the other hand...she knows how to tread a needle and has repaired a pillow in her room.  Very basic.  Now you have really got me thinking about the things I can teach her.  Wow, now that is a great skill to learn to mix cement!  Speaking of re-roofing, are you going to hire someone?  Probably about 7 years ago, we put a new roof on our house and decided to do it ourselves.  We live in a very hot part of California and in the middle of July was not a good time to re-roof.  My husband got 3/4 way done on the project and decided that we better hire someone to finish it.  I feel for roofers...it is HARD work!  Thanks for helping me learn and understand more about you.

Yes, she is such a blessing!  She does help keep me busy, so that is a plus!  It does help keep my mind off my son being gone.

I can tell this is a good group to be in!  Daysleeper -- I get the name now...you work nights and sleep during the day.  What is a CIT?  DIL is Daughter in Law.  Do you have grandkids?  Are you quilting the baby blanket?  That really takes a lot of patience!

I am not completely an emptynester, I have a daughter, Makayla 9; however, I miss my son terribly!  I just have those moments of sadness and missing him....it is just all the unknowing and wondering of how he is doing and handling things.
