Sally---   I can't hardly wait for the PIR.  We have all of our travel arrangements completed, and I am now trying to figure out how to pack light so that we do not have to check bags from California and back.  My son is going to Corpsman school next. I totally understand, and my son has only been gone a little over a month.  Hugs to you!!!!   Mary

Sally-    I wanted to cry after I read your post. I am sure that I will have the same emotions when my son comes home on leave.  Right now, he is in boot camp.  He is our only child that we did not think that we would ever have.  I have his room ready for him when he comes home on leave.  I cannot wait.  I am planning on going to his PIR to see him  I am sure that will be emotional, as well.  Take care.  We are all here for you.  Mary

Sally, be sure you post a couple (or dozen--lol) pix here for us!

It is so hard to only cook for us two--our refrigerator is so lonely.

Daysleeper-- I agree wtih you that Congress needs to think about all those people who will be hurt if they are not paid---our service men and women.   I hope that an agreement can be reached that is palatable to all.

lccronwell--- I know about one minute in high school and then the next minute gone.  I guess I was lucky that at least my son was home for a couple of years going to college.  But, the time went by way too fast.  I really miss his dirty dishes!!!  Welcome to the group.  Mary

Thanks for the welcome. I wish I had known about this group earlier. My son has been gone for some time now. One minute he was in high school and I was running ragged taking care of all of his stuff and the next he was gone and I had no idea what to do with the rest of my life! He left just one week after graduating high school. I have only seen him three times in five years. I think I am allowed to say, that he is on a ship that might or might not still be in Japan. To deal with my new life with no one left to take care of, I went back to a career that I had abandoned 35 years earlier. I started writing again. I ghostwrite and my clients are all very interesting, as are their stories. However, since March 11, I have not been able to write two words that have made sense and thankfully, my clients have all been understanding.

Anyway, enough about us...It's nice to meet all of you and I am sure that you all have great stories of how you handled the shock of becoming an emptynester.

Took the sailor's picture and a "dixie sup" to work yesterday.  Put it up on the tray holder so the kids at school could see Andy and wish his a happy birthday.  They wanted to know if they could have birthday cake, too.  Ahh, the humor of little kids.
